Hello, I'm very new to body building and want to know as much as i can so have a couple of questions about bulking. The main question would be if it's good if you want a six pack? would'nt bulking make you a little fat and hide you're six pack? also what good bulking meals do you suggest ( that don't involve eggs or milk )
Thanks in advance for you're advice!!!

Bulking can increase the size of your abdominal muscles, but then you have to cut to actually see them.
There is no such thing bulking or cutting foods.
Bulking = eating more calories than you burn
Cutting = eating fewer calories than you burn.
Your food selections are irrelevant. Hit your macros and eat mostly minimally processed food.

Keep it old school. Skip the bulking stage and just eat clean all the time and do cardio between your workout days. Then you can have a six pack all the time! Came across some tests that showed cardio does NOT burn muscle. So do not worry! Diet = 30% protein / 70% carbs (complex carbs preferably paired with plenty of fiber for slow digestion!)

Complete Food and Nutrition by the American Dietetic Association/MuscleMag Bodybuilding encyclopedia/Arnolds Encyclopedia/Strength Training Anatomy some magazines and tons of online articles to name a few. And I can't remember who performed the study but they monitored several runners for a total of 3000 miles and discovered they only lost a little over 2 pounds of muscle. Even more interesting they only lost the muscle in there legs. This is most likely due to "over training" of the legs.

I was generalizing *******. I'm not gonna write him a whole ****in book on what to eat...unless he asks really nicely. Here you go d1ck:
Breakfast:
Omega3/6/9 Supp
BCAA Supp
Multi
2 eggs
milk
OJ
Whey
2 slices of wheat bread
Lunch:
Peanut Butter or tuna
fruit
2 slices wheat bread
milk
Dinner:
6-12oz steak/chicken/fish
various veggies
milk
Snacks:
Nuts
Yogurt
Cheese
etc.
Essential Fatty Acids, complete proteins supplemented with branch chain amino acids for protein synthesis, plenty of carbs for energy and protein for rebuilding muscle.Last edited by videophile88; 01-12-2012 at 01:32 PM.

You advised that he eat a diet that is entirely devoid of dietary fat. That's not generalization, that is poor, stupid & dangerous advice. No one asked you to design a diet, but recommending meeting minimum protein & dietary fat levels seems pretty simple.

Bulk to add muscle mass & you'll gain some fat too. Meh. Cut it later. Lift heavy.Last edited by SoulZeppelin; 01-12-2012 at 01:36 PM.

SERIOUS ANSWER TO OP:
YES! Bulking is good for a six pack. Your abdominal muscles much reach a certain level of strength and size in order to look sexy. If you drop to 8% bodyfat before you do this, you will have the six pack muscles of a 12 year old boy.
The definition of bulking is subjective. You absolutely must eat at a calories surplus to gain muscle, period. That calorie surplus is what defines a bulk in my subjective opinion. You MUST do this in order to gain muscle. People who hate on bulking either don't realize the necessity of a calorie surplus in order to gain muscle, or they think of 'bulkers' as people who eat everything in sight with no regard to setting a calorie limit. Even while bulking you should aim for a specific calorie target range in order to maximize muscle gains and minimize fat gain (inevitable).
Bulk up with careful calorie balancing for a while to gain some muscle mass and then cut down a to low body fat percentage and you should have a nice six pack. This will probably take upwards of one year to accomplish.

Okay guys thanks for the advice i really do appreciate it!!! but let me see if i can make my situation a little more informative. okay I'm 5 foot 4 and i used to weight 150 pounds then threw a 2,000 calorie diet and working out 3 times a day for about 2-3 hours i managed to get down to 124... my work outs consisted of a lot of sit ups which were about 8 sets of 30-40 and dumbell work outs ( mainly for biceps ) unfortunately i was not able to get my abs cut up like i wanted them to.... I definitely lost the belly i used to have, but still no six pack so what should i do guys?? I'm getting kind of frustrated... so bottom line bulk or no bulk?? and if yes up to how many pounds? Once again thanks for the advice guys and thanks for taking the time to read all this.
( also i drink Whey protein and eat a lot of chicken and steak and consume about 1500 calories a day )
