I've been lifting on and off for ages now.
Anyway, I've been lifting at home for the last few months, and I'm soon to join a gym as the one I was at before had no free weights.
Would you say cables are any good? E.g. tricep pull downs and the rows? Are they quite beneficial? I particularly hate bent-over barbell row, so maybe the cable would be better?
What do you guys think?

People whould change up their exercises every 3 weeks or so right? in order to avoid reaching a plateau?
If that's the case, would a cable machine or free weights be better for doing chest flyes to replace bench?
I'm considering buying a used cable machine for around $100 right now and can't decide whether the free weights I have would be a better idea.

One-arm db row.
Poliquin: "One problem with the barbell row is that it's really hard for people to just use the lats and elbow flexors. They always unconsciously start to drive with the quads and use their glutes and lower back. The second thing is that the bar either hits your gut or your chest, which restricts your range of motion. The better way to do it is to just use the one-arm dumbbell row."

i use cables pretty much exclusively for my iso/end exercises, for back i do 1 handed rows and completely focus on the muscle instead of moving heavier weights. same for tricep pushdown/rope and i do a really good 1 handed chest fly on the cable that works better then any other iso chest movement.
Edit: i kind of worded that wrong, i mean when i use cables they are only for iso/mind muscle not that my only iso movements are cables.
