slow down and make sure you're hitting all the right positions before you speed it up.
things i noticed:
keep your right leg tight all the time, don't let it flail out. your right leg should be the driving force throughout the turn
it looks like half of your turns are toe turns. stay on the heel/side. it's hard to do legit hammer turns without throwing shoes.
don't pull your head into the turns. make sure you are looking down your right arm as you come around.
i'm sure twisted has some input too, those are just the big things i noticed.35# weight - PR: 19.83.

Yea its been said but ill remphasize.
The right foot steps to 270 degrees. Not swung around like a disc spin.
Guess I should explain '270' first. If you look straight away from the field that would be 0. To the left is 90. Middle of the field is 180. And the to the right is 270.
So you want to pivot to 90 degrees. Step to 180 (advanced g straight to 270) then pivot through to 90 again. All the while your hands, eyes, shoulders, stay squared with your hips. Start with a broom befoe u try and move a weight fast. Gotta program the movements into your cns first before you can add speed.

Finally got my 1.6kg discus in the mail... only throwing it like 60ft. Boy this is gonna take a loooot of work
Also, a (stupid) question: in a high school competition are you allowed to warm up with, say, a 16lb shot before your throws?PRs

So went to park doing some standing discus tosses-I can't spin well yet- I was using the college size discus and standing throwing around 150range, with the spin how much farther will I be able to toss it if my technique is alright? Like on average how much farther is the spin vs your standing with the discus.

it was rough estimate-130-150 range though for sure- and I was jumping into it-going well over the line- I've done some throwing in the past-160 spin best with college discus- but I'm much bigger and stronger right now. My buddy could throw in the 150 range standing-not going over the line- and was only throwing around 170 with spin though-and I have several hundred pounds in my lifting total on him and like 50lbs on him-. 190 is what most guys in college throw and olympics is like 220 range though so got a long way to go to even get decent mark. Not to mention I know how hard it can be to even get another inch once you start to get near the higher range. I'm done with college though and just take my old 2kg discus to the park and toss around sometimes with shot-worse at shot only stand throw around 45ish-
quick question where do I find meets for adults to compete at? I'm sure there is a small sign up cost but it could be fun.updated 2011

This is to the coaches. I'm really getting frustrated with my Javelin progress. I'm throwing the 1.5 KG disc 42 meters and realistically believe I'll be approaching 47 meters next season. I can throw a baseball and football pretty hard. My frustration is that I think I should be able to throw a 700 gram javelin 45 meters at least, but I'm terrible at it and can't even get to 36 meters. I throw through the point fairly well. I'm just clueless why my javelin sucks so bad. Don't have any video of it right now (I'd get some but my achiles is inflamed so need to lay off a full run for a couple more weeks). Any thoughts about what the hold up is without seeing video? Also, is anyone aware of any coaches in the US out there that could/would provide advice just based on video?
I don't want to be a jav specialist, but do want to get a decent score in the pentathlon going forward and am just tired of embarrasing myself.

Glide or Spin?
This is to any coaches, I throw Glide shot right now, and during summer practice I have hit 54 ft without scratching. Just going up to the track and throwing I can hit 48-50 ft pretty consistently, but every coach I talk to says i should switch to the spin because I have a more stocky build. Im 5'9 235 lbs. Im going into my junior year, should I switch techniques or keep doing what im doing?? Btw, my current coach does not know how to coach the spin at all.

Yo guys, I need you all to help me out. I wanna get ready for the coming throwing season which starts in January for me. I'm tired of working hard and not throwing far. This year I wanna change it all, I wanna train right and become one of the top throwers at school. I'm a 5'8" 155-pound kid, not the most ideal build for throwing, but I have a lot of dedication in me. I will put my body through hell to get better at throwing. I just need you all to guide me through this to make sure I'm not wasting any time.
-Junior in high school
-Been throwing and wrestling for 2 years now
-Freshman year: Between 26'-27' in shot,
-Sophomore year: 28'3 in shot, around 70' disc
I know these stats probably sound like a joke, even I think they are horrible, but that's why I need you guys.
During fall of sophomore year, my lifts were making really good progress. But then during wrestling, I had no time whatsoever to go lift, and the training we were doing was just more endurance-based. By the time it was spring, I just wasn't as strong. All my lifts went down, I managed to get most of them up but I'm not making much progress on bench. My current 1RM for squats is 235, bench is 145 (it was 175 in fall, and I think 155 in spring), and deadlifts is 285.
Now, I got 5 months. And I'm not gonna be wrestling this year. For shot, I want to get as close to 40' as I can. I don't wanna waste a single minute. I've been bulking over summer and have gotten fairly strong. I'm gonna be starting Madcows starting September. I was just wondering if I should include explosive lifts in the Madcows routine. During the season my coach said I was really strong and had the potential to throw far, but I needed work on my explosive-ness. So anyone got any suggestions as to what I should do? And during the Madcows program should I use the flat bench or the inclined bench as incline will probably help throwing more? Since spring my diet has only gotten better, so now I need a better training program. I will be discussing this with my coach as well, but I just wanna see if you guys got any suggestions. Also I wanna start practicing with shot put every day, which weight do you guys think will be most helpful (or should I use all 3)? Oh and we're not allowed to do the spin, only power and glide for shot put.Goals in Sight, Benefits in Vision

willhu your coming along very very good the only thing that you need to keep in mind is that when you land in the power position you need to get that right foot turning to get more hips into the throw also try to emulate a reverse C with your back at the front of the circle My hs career with the throws are done my prs where 174 with the discus had some well over 190 in practice 48 with the shotput had around 55 gliding and 160 with the jav now im moving up to the college size implements im actually learning the shot rotation now........... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edZO9yxUd5g

Been reading lots of posts on this thread tonight... The whole reason I got into lifting was because the throwing coach at my school said I had a great build for throwing but it also happens to be my senior year. Was wondering what I could do to really help prep myself for the season. I'm not holding myself to high expectations but I am going to put all I got into it.

got to throw if you want to be good at throwing. lifting wont hurt but to be better at something you need to practice. ive seen some seriously strong guys not throw very far at all while some weaker ones throw some crazy distances. likewise ive seen some crazy strong guys throw far as hell.
37 aint bad for first time out. just throw more and itll improve. complex movements and sprint training helps a ton.ACE-PT, NSCA, USATF-1
