Most teenagers pay for their entertainment, clothes, and their car. If you don't have a car, expenses are very minimal. I don't know many parents who charge their 16 year olds for rent or food. I had over 10k at 18 and my Mom even made me pay for part of my food because I eat a lot, as well as my gym membership, all of my clothes, entertainment.

Many people who have 10k at 18 probably worked hard for their money. Or are you too cynical to recognize that?

At 18 I had over 10k and I worked hard for it, I'm proud of the car I own and paid for, I pay most of my living expenses (phone/clothes/petrol/alcohol) and am glad I knew the value of a dollar when I did.

Seriously, I've got 7k saved up just from working the summer, I'll have close to 10k by the time school starts. I'm paying my own rent, food, car, gas, clothes... everything.

I worked 80 hour weeks non stop, I didn't get no damn handouts!

**** you. I have 6 grand in mutual funds, 6 grand in bank, and my parents don't give me ****. Yeah, I get a couple hundred at christmas, and a hundred at my birthday, but I have worked for 4 years, mowed lawns since 8th grade. Worked 3 jobs in the last year and a half. Don't act like everyone who has something got it from mommy and daddy just because you were too lazy to get off your ass and work. It comes from being smart, not being spoiled. (yes mad)

i worked from when i was 14, bought a **** ass car that is reliable, saved EVERY penny i have ever made. i dont waste money on anything. my parents are paying for college but my college would only be like 2,000 a yr max because of scholarships. not spoiled, stfu slated.

Lets see here , I have 13,000 or so in debt from my college loan that is getting interst tacked to it all the time. 3.8 and I still don't get scholarships that amount to anything...........because I am from middle class. I have not took out any money other then what I need to pay for fees and books, no extra money for fun from college loans.

I have 2300 in high yield savings and 600 in checking. Worked this summer for 3000 gross. my truck which is 10 years old is starting to take all my money.

so in wrap up .....yes I am bitter that you folks have mad savings at early age. I just wonder if this is more like the "everyone benches 500 lbs around here" if you look like 90% of americans give or take are in debt.

That's not very fair , at 16 I had 10k in the bank ... My parents paid for food and I didn't pay board but I was far from spoiled ... I worked my ass off every night after school , every weekend and holidays .
