Hey all. There are enough vitamin and general health supplementation topics here that I thought this might be a good place to ask.
I can almost always breath through my nose, but it's always somewhat stuffy. My nasal passages aren't every completely clear, and that makes my breathing - whether awake or asleep - really loud and noticeable. I don't want to take cold medicine year round to try and clear it up, so I wondered if you knew of any good and safe supplementation I could use to permanently or continuously maintain completly clear nasal passages?
Many thanks,
-Evan
Edit: Of note, it gets worse at night, and slightly worse during the colder weather, but still there year-round.

Beconase
Active ingredient: Beclomethasone dipropionate (12hr)
Active ingredient: Fluticasone propionate (24hr)
(as far as my doctor has said) can be used everyday, ask yours and see what he recommends.
menthol sprays as needed tend to clear a blocked/stuffy nose temporarily.
try cleaning filters on your a/c units and your fans. your mattress may be getting on in years and causing some issues. also curtains, bedspread etc.Tell your Girlfriend i said thanks....

This is of the most interest to me so far as to a solid solution.
If it tastes bad, why would I want to do it throught the day, every day of my life?
Figured I wouldn't be the only one! Let's hope we can find a solid solution! It's one of those slight annoyances, but I have a feeling getting it solved will provide a huge boost in quality of life!

I've been advised to actually have my nasal passages checked out to see if there is a physical problem as I've had this issue for a while too.
Another solution is xylitol nose spray. It should clear you right up and can be used anytime you need to clear things up. It's basically just spraying a tiny bit of sugar alcohol up your nose. I forget exactly why it works, but it does work for me and it's very cheap. Your local health food stores prob sell it.

I have the same issue, I breath so heavy when I sleep my wife has to wear ear plugs. My wifes dad also had the issue, he had some sort of minor surgery, they went up his nose and did some stuff to clear it or open it up.

If you have no luck with any of the sprays and stuff you may want to check into this, I think this is what my father in law had done.

I feel you on this one. I broke my nose off the skull, not on the bridge, once last year and the year before. I took this fools back and caugt a spinning elbow that fractured the orbit of my eye and deviated my septum. Its been nothing but chronic nasal issues since. Flonase works but the post nasal drip is disgusting. Loratidine works pretty cool as well. The best is an old bottle of suclor i have with pseudoEph. It dries you out righteous. On a non drug note ive found the neti pot works consistently also when training in the cold ill use a psolar thermal exchange mask.

Have you tried nasal irrigation? You can do this with a neti pot. The ceramic ones are a bit expensive though, but you can make your own neti pot.

I used this for a while, finally got my nose checked out. I had whats called a deviated septum and it sucked because swimming everyday only made it worse. The septum would swell. Basically the septum(central wall of your nose) becomes bent in some for or manner and blocks the passage way. This causes chronic colds and a perpetually stuffy nose.
A doctor clarified it for me and I had a surgery done to fix it last spring break. You need about a month off from anything and for a week after surgery you have massive 4 in tubes in your nose. IT SUCKSSSSS! Trust me it was awful but now it was worth it. It will be an incredibly misserable week as you struggle to sip on protein drinks so you don't wither away. Eating sucks you won't be able to do it for the first few days.
That being said it was worth it dude! I feel better now all the time, I don't get a stuff nosed much at all anymore and I can actually blow my nose out when it gets stuff. Its awesome.
Definitely give the netty pot a try tho I still have mine for when I get a cold. Its a magical nose steroid.NSCA CSCS

I was just looking at it for liver health reasons, but while reading reviews on NAC at iHerb it seemed like there was a lot of people saying how it helped with stuffiness, allergies, asthma, etc. Since that wasn't my concern I didn't look into why it's good for that, and I don't know why you're stuffy, but it might be worth looking into.
