yea...nailed it...broscience to audio
im just saying it is very possilbe to have a ported enclosure that has a flat response if you know what you are doing
a sealed box is just one of a variety of enclosure types, such as:
4th order
6th order
t-line
quarter wave
folded horns
i believe you can get to like 8th, 12th orders (etc) once you start adding in crossovers (these are beyond my realm of current knowledge...could be wrong)
enclosure theory is complicated and interesting and runs well beyond the scope of a standard commercial sealed box..

Well the typical process is to get the manufacturers specs, build the appropriate enclosure, test for phase, then test against pink noise with an RTA to figure out when to set subsonic and LPF...
The goal is to cut off all of the frequencies that the speaker distorts or does not perform well against...It is MUCH more complicated with Time delay, phasing, power levels, eq, etc for front stage. I wont even try to explain how to do it appropriately.Last edited by tbonez3858; 12-06-2010 at 10:21 AM.
But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you. Go on, lean in. Listen, you hear it? - - Carpe - - hear it? - - Carpe, carpe Landīca, seize IT boys, make your lives extraordinary.

Well bro it is kind of stupid (srs)...I spent vast portions of my life and great sums of money only to wisen up and figure out its all marketing (srs)...I can tell you you can buy 20 buck speakers off of Performance, hook them up, bench mark them with an RTA and they "sound" as good as a pair of $600 speakers...
The problem with car audio is the car is a horrible environment for sound...The second you crank the car or roll down the windows you might as well be p***ing in the wind. Spend money on car audio if you like to jam the volume and bump the tunes. You can do that with a couple of amps and some coaxs..Trying to find the grail of car audio sound quality is a total waste of money and effort. (srs)
I regret every hour I spent crumpled up under a seat trying to figure out what was reflecting off of what...But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you. Go on, lean in. Listen, you hear it? - - Carpe - - hear it? - - Carpe, carpe Landīca, seize IT boys, make your lives extraordinary.

I was considering that as ive heard good things its just so pricy. I wish there were more deals on that stuff being offered. i've heard you only need to hit like 25% of an area to block 90% of resonation though. How much do you think I'd need for my trunk and front doors? still trying to figure that out

i would just buy as much as you can afford right now....and more later if you feel like u need more.
i would apply it to the areas with the largest/flatest surface....basically any large area without bracing....i.e. side panels and trunk lid.....if u want more then save a little and buy moremanlet
