it's been shown that after a while of consuming artificial sugars and sweeteners your body will react to them the same way as it does regular sugars. your body has a way of not adjusting very well to being tricked which is why they say if you wanna lose weight don't just go to diet soda, get rid of it all together.
diet soda in some cases can cause weight gain because of the bodies reaction to the sweeteners.

Your original post is misleading because it reads as "artificial sweetners (though CALORIE-LESS) can physiologically cause weight gain" which is impossible.
This article just states what many already know about artificial sweetners: "In the Purdue study, the rats whose diets contained artificial sweeteners appeared to experience a physiological connection between sweet tastes and calories, which drove them to overeat"
Once again, though, its a matter of mental aptitude and just being smart about what you eat and taking things in MODERATION. If you want some Diet Pepsi, have ONE CAN, not a HALF GALLON--simple.Team HALEO™ Rep

You are contradicting yourself
You can drink a gallon of Diet Pepsi if you want with no weight gain (calories would be very minimal). The issue with artificial sweetners isnt it causing you to eat drink more diet pepsi, its if it triggers you to crave and eat calorie containing food.Founder of MMDELAD

"The taste buds taste sweet, but there's no calorie load that comes with it. There's a mismatch here. It seems it changes your brain chemistry in some way," Savard said. "Anything you put in your mouth, your body has a strong reaction to it. It's much more than counting calories. It seems normally with sweet foods that we rev up our metabolism."
The only thing I can think that could possibly make this true is that if artificial sweeteners could somehow affect you sub-lingually, but that is pretty doubtful since it'd have to reside under your tongue for a prolonged duration. OR, perhaps that the artificial sweeteners somehow make you retain more of the calories that you eat (which doesn't really seem likely). OR, that artificial sweeteners cause water retention (hence "weight gain").
