anyone have any tips on reading classics? some of them are so boring but i want the knowledge anyways... stopped halfway into the grapes of wrath, thinking i would fly through the whole Steinbeck collection..

I think Steinbeck is a bit overrated and tends to play on very similar themes and such in most of his novels. What kind of classics are we talking about here? American classics? European?
As far as American classics go, if you feel you can read better than most your age, I'd definitely check out Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. I think its part of the AP lit curriculum but I'm not sure. Regardless its a great book that everyone should read.
For European lit my personal favorite is Candide by Voltaire. Its a good short novel, only like 120 some pages I think, about a young man traveling the world in the 18th century. So it goes...

pretty much a bit of both. i just want to see what all the rave is about with the classics. i mean there are some must reads like the great gatsby, etc, but i want to experience them all. Will check out both your recommendations though. i have a lot of books i got from a friend that i need to read but have been too busy.
including: the art of war, most of steinbeck collection, the road, moby dick, the three musketeers, and others. looking forward to it.

If this thrad were about movies, I'd have something to say.
I really haven't read much at all lately.
I've been carrying around Angels and Demons in my bag for a few months and I think I'm only on page 12. Since I got one of those geeky phones when I have time to burn, I play with it instead of reading.*No Crew*
