I really don't see that the rep system is a problem I mean people like it it makes a lot of people happy I don't really see that it's a problem.
I many upper-middle-class of reps myself and really feel that it motivated me to make good posts instead of just pouring out BS,LOL hard at anyone who thinks that the system makes people hold back are you people blind who in the world here holds back because they have little power? An example please.
If you think people are holding back just because they don't have as many reps as someone else go look at the r&p section, or anywhere else for that matter.War Machine for bb.com Moderator

Notice how AnimalMade is my example of the 'leech'.

Is this how Ryan wants to advertise his forum? Argue rationally against company reps and you get negged for life (which is againt board rules anyway).
This shows people do care about reps otherwise they wouldn't post "negs for life".Last edited by raysmith; 11-05-2008 at 10:05 AM.

From my newb POV, there's another reason the rep system seems to fit this website like a glove, in addition to what has been already mentioned.
Most people who do some form of resistance training are or become accustomed to slow, but somewhat steady returns gained over a long period of time.
It occurred to me the other day that the same qualities are mirrored in bb.com's rep system. The limits on spread and recharge mean that usually it takes a long time of relatively positive, community-spirited posting to gain good reputation.
This probably doesn't come as an earth-shattering idea to most of you who've been here awhile, but it's kind of neat as seen through a new member's eyes. Who knows, it might even subtlety helps people new to resistance training to not give up when the gains taper off a bit...

The only rep that matters is the one in the gym
If anybody needs web/computer help, feel free to hit me up. It's just a little something I can give back to the community.

how about the option to disable your reputation? like instead of green or red bars there would be none or a gray bar, and when you hover above it, it would say "user has disabled reputation"
those who still care about their "rep" and green bars on an internet forum, can keep it if it makes them happy.
in my opinion, i think that would be fair to everyone.

Not a bad idea...
Well thought up post, must have took you ages.
Exactly, how about having their reps disabled? That would be a start.
Still waiting for Admin to chime in especially about company reps abusing the system. After all this is a "give us your ideas".Ansew to the few pms I've gotten since popping back on-line...
