As I said in the other thread it was Mas Oyama the founder of Kyokushin Karate that was known for bull fights, although the broken horn thing is suspect as you can see in this clip. There are eyewitness accounts of the horns getting broken from palm heel strikes, but I assume they were cut first to allow this to happen.

Yeah thats cool and all but as you've aluded to, its definitely not legit. The amount of force required to chop a bulls horns from its head cannot be generated with a palm strike from an 80kg human. Why are we even debating this? lol.
Same thing I said in the other thread. These karate guys all chit bricks when MMA hit the scene, which in turn gave a massive boost to BJJ/Judo/Wrestling gyms. They ran a scam on their students by telling them they weren't allowed to take part in MMA as the skills they have would kill people. Obviously this was a ruse in attempt to retain memberships.

There is no debate, y'all were bringing up the Karate/bull fighting connection and I posted the source it stemmed from
That is all
As for karate not being effective compared to MMA, yes you are correct, and especially apparent because of the way it has been trained in the west.(little to no contact, McDojos, kata focused etc)
MMA by its very definition is a mix of styles which makes it more complete than any one system. Not debating that either, its a no brainer
Having said that Karate can be a good system if trained right and mixed with a grappling style. I have been training for 28 years, and in that time have trained Kyokushin, Judo, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Japanese JuJutsu and a bit of BJJ. I settled on Kyokushin and Judo as my main base as both suit my frame/body type. I can tell you my Kyokushin training has not let me down once in that timeframe, I am able to spar with Muay Thai fighters on equal footing using only Kyokushin Karate. Its just trained differently than other karate styles in the west.Judo crew

Sure Karate can be adjusted to work well within MMA. There are already a few examples over the years of people that have been able do just that, but if we're taking someone from scratch with the intent of making a well rounded fighter and dumping 2/3 disciplines at them, would Karate be one of them? Surely not. My daughter for example I've had training since she turned 5 years old. I've got her in MT/BJJ/Judo. Judo I'd likely switch out for wrestling if we had any decent schools in Ireland within range of me. However our Judo coach is a former olympic medalist for Brazil so shes well taught.
Btw have you been watching the Abu Dhabi Worlds this week?

IMO depends on the quality of training and what you expect to get out of it. are you training for self defense, or the ring? Or Both? Especially now, people will gravitate towards styles favored by MMA (Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling to a lesser extent Judo) The market has become more saturated by these (especially MT/ BJJ) and subsequently the styles themselves have become more popular, therefore you are seeing them represented more often in a MMA context. But what do they have in common then that makes them so effective? Are they magic bullet styles? No, they all emphasize sparring and full contact(or near full contact) training. This enables them to strip the bullchit techniques that dont work out of their syllabus. You will find Karate when stripped of its bullchit techniques becomes very similar to Muay Thai or Kickboxing. There are only so many ways to throw a kick or punch. Why not just do MT/KB then? Karate (when trained correctly) also offers tradition, polishes self and trains in situations that can translate well out of the ring. And if you find the right dojo you can get the best of both worlds. Go to a Kyokushin club and see how they train. Its not for the weak. Having said this I would stay away from any other Karate style (in the west) unless they train in a similar fashion
Kudos on training your daughter too mate, you cant go wrong with any of those styles

The main reason the emphasis shifted to BJJ/MT is due to the syngergy they provide when put together. MT provides the ability to stand and trade comfortably with anyone, with the ability to transition from the clinch to the mat and continue to work comfortably. You just can't find that same syngergy with any 2 other disciplines. That in turn translates into someone building an overall higher skill level in a shorter space of time, which is what you're looking for on the road to the cage.

Makes sense, but did you know Kyokushin is a mid range style also? Its not like Shotokan that needs a lot of room for their techniques to work. I can fire a head kick from kneeing distance. Typically a Kyokushin fighter trains to already be in close enough range for take downs. Clinches, Knees, elbows along with leg sweeps are all in the syllabus. In fact, if you watch a tournament 80 percent of techniques are performed at mid to close range. It pairs extremely well with Judo. So well they made a separate sport out of it

In all seriousness, Akd123 is probably dangerous.
People don't fight fair and Akd123 seems like he's mentally ill and legit crazy. Being a better fighter doesn't mean chit if you're minding your business and he walks up to you and sucker punches or sucker stabs you.thats why every civilization throughout human history for 50,000 years has restricted female's rights. except for jews, and except for the last century.
women need to be kept at home, and wear trash bags over their heads if they ever go out.
imagine all the half dog half humans we'd have running around if dogs could get women pregnant.

Not to mention all of the illegal moves he could pull if he's legitimately unhinged.
Everyone thinks a fight is just going to be two dudes squaring up and boxing/grappling. They forget about biting, eye gouging, headbutting, and pressing someone's skull against the sharpest corner you can find. No rules in a street fight.
