I think it makes sense for home gyms where you are using the same plates everyday or using calibrated plates. A single commercial gym plate can range a couple pounds heavy or light. But if it helps your mindset I'd say go for it.

i bring an oversized carabiner so i can attach 2.5 lb plates to dumbells, since they go up in 5 lb increments. i had to progress from shoulder pressing 80 lb DBs to 82.5 lbs... i didn't wanna jump up to 85 lbs just yet
as for barbells, 5 lb jumps are good enough for me since i can increase reps before making the jump

I only go up or down by 20lbs minimum. There's a hundred different things you can do with the same weight. Grip variations, cadence or tempo adjustments, reverse reps with a spotter. 5lbs increments isn't worth the time, and bringing your own weights to the gym is kinda weird.
I like to use an metronome app to stretch reps out. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. It's easy. For bench I start with 135, then 225, then 275, and from there I do my working sets. If I hit a stocking point I add more reps to my warm up sets or do 3-5 second reps.
Funny how life is. You do it all, even tech, and you look like a soggy turd. I make no effort and actually look like I lift in a shirt. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. I had a friend who said he would progress in the weight by 50 lbs each week and bench everyday if he started lifting, he said according to his math he would be doing "a lot" of weight after a few months, he also had serious mental health problems and didn't take meds.
What you said reminds me of him.Cliffs:

Don't be so modest, not only do you look like you lift, you're bigger than a prime Arnold Schwarzenegger. 280lbs at 20% puts you at 224lbs of lean body mass alone. Arnold only had 230lbs of total body mass on stage. And you did it while natty and not lifting. Truly amazing.
Yet despite being so much better than me, every miscer, every human being on the planet actually given that you mogg even Mr. Olympia, you're too shy to show us your incredible physique with your shirt off.
The common sense explanation is that you're completely full of chit. But that can't be the case because you've also told us frequently how morally superior you are to all of us too. Someone so honest and honorable like you would never lie.People make fun of blacks, Indians and Muslims all the time on this site and no one cares. I make fun of landwhales, and all these simps show up.
At least blacks, Indians and Muslims are human beings. Landwhales belong in a zoo. They aren't even human. What is there to be offended over?

First of all, you're not a dork for working out. You're a huge dork for caring what people think.
Second, if you want to use small plates then use them. Lift safety☆ Brave 767 crew ☆

When I first started lifting and did starting strength I did that. It was fine for benchpress/OHP. Looking back at it. Its kind of dumb. Unless you are a high tier competitive power lifter and are planning on breaking a record or your own record by like 1 pound or some ****.
Once you've been lifting for a long time you realize it really doesn't matter that much. Progressively overloading over a long period of time is how you make progress. It can either be adding weight. Adding reps. Adding sets. Or lowering rest times.
If adding 1-2lbs to the bar each session makes you happy. Do it. But I wouldn't want to look like that big of a nerd in the gym.

You sound mad. I can understand why. You're a failure at everything you have attempted in life. You're older than me, born in the US, middle class parents, and you just suck at life. Every advantage, wasted. Even cellular technology can't save you from mediocrity. I feel for you. What's your first name. I'll name my kid after you so that someone who isn't a loser can have that name.

I love you, Gary. You know that. That being said, I think you'll appreciate genuine advice on the subject, even if it isn't purely complimentary.
I'll say this: bringing in fractional weight plates lower than the standard 2.5's is indeed a bit on the obsessive end of weight lifting. However, is it really that bad compared to any of the other autistic chit that goes on in gyms? Is it any weirder than a dude who makes a big scene out of dragging his lifting wraps/sleeves/chalk tupperware/belt around with him at the gym? Is it any less autistic than the cardio bunny girls who are about 5'8" 110 pounds sopping wet who do nothing but run on treadmills for 2 hours a day 6 days a week?
I think you can see where I'm going with all of this, brah. In the grand scheme of things, there's far more austic chit people do at gyms than fractional weight plates. So who gives a chit even if it is a little dorky? I mean, despite how much I've enjoyed it in my lifetime, the gym life and culture itself is autistic af, something I realize more and more the older I get. So I say, bring the fractional plates in with zero fuks given, srs lol
