Just completed WGU Master's degree in cybersecurity & Information assurance 2 days ago. Studying and planning to take the CISSP within the next 8 weeks. I've been working in a NOC for the past 3 years, and for the last 7 months in a manager position. I've got 5 direct reports and im still adjusting to the position a little bit, with the meetings, politics and other stuff.
If I wanted to stay in management i'd probably have to stay in this position until maybe 2 years before I could leave? I'm not sure where i could land from a security analyst / engineer perspective either if I wanted to make the jump. My NOC climb has gone from year 1, 38k -> year 2, 59k -> year 3, 71k (Up to 10% bonus at EOY depending on company performance), which is ok but the commutes a bit longer than I want. There's also no place to climb from my current position either. There's 4 managers below the senior manager, and i'm the manager of the net/sys admin team where the other 3 are analyst managers.
tldr - not sure what to do for 2020

So in preparation for getting a new box to virtualize some ****e, I decided to consolidate all my data and make an additional backup. I've got a DAS in the form of a WD mirror set enclosure, and a D-Link NAS (also RAID 1). They're both about 10 years old. In moving files around, the DAS box doesn't respond any more after giving some read errors, and the NAS seems to have file system issues - a folder I copied keeps disappearing and reappearing and I can't copy anything else to it.
I've been browsing around web sites like HP and EMC, and I've realized two things: 1) it's a biatch to navigate their sites, and 2) it's way too much money for what I'm looking for. I'd get a box and build my own array, but I don't have the time for it. It's either do that (and re-invent the wheel) or lift!
Recommendations on redundant, ideally network-attached storage are appreciated. Compression and/or deduplication are bonuses. I'll be accessing this from a Mac (until I get everything off of it) and Linux going forward. I figure I've got about 1TB now and I'll probably double that by the end of 2020 then it will stabilize.

You know what to do now, keep at it. I failed a few certs the first time. I never go back and answer the questions that I mark and need to learn to read questions better. I cant tell you the number of questions I didnt answer correctly because I failed to read the entire question.

August 2019 right after my Bachelors term came to a close - I wanted to keep the momentum going. I've got a month left in this term, but my mentor is going to open up the next course, let me study until Jan 25th, unenroll me in the course, and then let my new term start feb 1 and I'll be a month ahead on it.
I'm going to try to finish within the term starting feb 1, it's alot of papers left from my understanding. CEH I figured would be a hurdle, papers were pretty easy for me in the bachelors and never had one returned IIRC. NBD if I have to do a 3rd term as work is paying for it.
edit: WGU btw

Basically every class I would google the class # WGU Reddit and scour through all the info and tips from people who have already taken the courses. I usually always go through the course material, and do the labs/tests and additionally google flash cards for the given course (they usually exist). Keeping in touch with your course mentor/course instructor helps because sometimes they have little study guide and what not that aren't available in the main course material. I've never done a cohort, they are always at weird times and for some reason rarely recorded.

Finally got my first IT job, not the dream entry level role, but considering I have zero "formal IT jobs" on my resume and live in one of the worst job markets in the country, i'll take what i can get. Tech support at a fortune 100 company, remote support for internal employees, start at $17/hr.
Hope to have my Sec+ in no more than 8 weeks, between having some verifiable IT experience and the Sec+ I'm hoping that i can jump to an security analyst role.

Sup boyos.
Salesforce architect here - looking to move into Azure or AWS next.
AWS certs are pretty valuable in Salesforce world but does Salesforce experience mean anything in AWS/Azure world?
Trying to get out of Salesforce - great money but pretty much maxed out career growth wise unless i go management.VAG Crew
