It's perfectly legal to accuse someone of a crime. I'm not going to pass judgment on the accuser, she could well be legitimate and if so that's terrible. I'm not going to pass judgment on the accused either, he deserves the benefit of due process. No person should be lynched on the basis of accusations alone, and if accusations are what it takes to keep someone out of a SCOTUS seat, there will be an accusation at each nomination.

I'm as staunch a supporter of taking victims seriously as you will find, and there's an inordinate amount of research out there on victims delaying reporting, but there is just a lot about this that troubles me. Maybe she is completely being truthful, but until and unless something else comes out that corroborates her story, I don't think delaying or derailing a nomination is warranted.
