yes you get used to it if you train with it, like y'know...everything.

yes because I don't go over 600lbs with a power bar.

we have a texas squat bar ordered so I'm thinking I'll use that for my next meet prep and heavy squats, but this seems to work just fine on volume work in the 200-250 range

How thick is a typical squat bar? My old gym only had cheap 32mm bars and my new one only has 28.5mm rogue ones, much preferred the cheap thick ones for squatting with

not exactly relevant, but in my last meet prep I squatted 265 or 285 and it came up way faster than I was anticipating and the whip threw me off completely, almost lost balance and fell over

I've seen people post videos of them squatting and complaining about the whip of the bar and thought to myself, that's a whole bunch of crap, but i am now a changed man that believes it makes a distinct difference

That's your problem, you're squatting too fast. Be like me and grind out every rep from 70% up. No problemo!

same here, grind every squat from around 70-75% until my legs make a 45 degree angle then i move up so fast from that position our texas squat bar has some movement. out of the hole i am horrible unless i have wraps on.

my shoulder mobility is bad and my shoulders are wide.

I did a USPA meet in Massachusetts earlier this year and there were a number of 220+ lifters. A texas squat bar wasn't available for us to use. I can go down the list of other issues, but the highlights were,

Eleiko bar used on all 3 lifts. Pulling on an eleiko bar was surprising when I was expecting a texas DL bar. Squatting on it was fine, but knowing it is the "incorrect" bar is slightly annoying

We were told we had to wrap our thumbs around the bar on squats.

I was told my red 2.5m lilliebridge wraps were illegal, but he would let them slide anyway.

It was a drug tested meet. I won best overall lifter, wasn't tested. Neither was any other lifter.

Meet location changed 3 days prior to meet. 20 minutes away. Change was due to construction at the original location that was going on for 3 months. Plenty of time to adjust location and inform lifters, but they waited until a few days before to start calling people.

This was a while ago, meet was in March. He is now well aware of these issues. I was told everything is good now and to not expect this again, but RPS is near me as well, and I've had nothing but good experiences with them. If I feel like going to IPL worlds in Vegas, then I'll deal with USPA again, but until then, there are other good options near me.

Do you remember who the meet director was? I know the meet ended up being held at my MA gym. I know the owner of that gym and a few others there have ran countless amazing USAPL meets, but I can't say anything about the few USPA meets.

Sean DiCataldo was the director. One of the funnier (at least now that its over) is when I asked what bar we were pulling on because I only saw one DL bar in warmups. He then said we were going to use the elieko bar for all lifts and acting like he was doing us a favor because its the best bar around. He even used Blaine Sumners recent 816lb deadlift as a reference to make his case.

Very cool. He's an old training partner so I'm somewhat biased but I think he makes the best quality stuff around. Didn't know Isaku was getting one too till I saw it on fb.

I even got great shipping. He was delayed in making a few of the racks (ran out of materials and a machine went down). He called me up and said mine was finished but he wanted to let someone else take it for a meet they were hosting. He said it'll take about another month to finish the one that would then go to me. Coincidentally, His father was taking a road trip up to Rhode Island. He offered to personally deliver it to my house. Saved about $600 on shipping.

It took my buddy a lot time to come to terms with it but he's a lot happier now. He thought all his lifting buddies were going to ostracize him and we're all like "Cool. So you're coming to squat on Saturday or not? Try not to drip your ass blood on the mat". Typical stuff you would expect from a group of meat heads haha
