For real, that gear is sick. I think what I like most about it all is how simple it is...it's not big and flashy. Really, really dig it...especially the logo.
My greatest achievement? I could say a lot of things. My Masters degree, my opportunity (though brief) to play in the NFL...but those are individual accomplishments. When I think about the things I have done, one stands out and that is COACHING. I got into coaching three seasons ago, and unfortunately due to my job I won't be able do re-join the team this year (football). I've been blessed with being able to coach kids that went on to go full scholarship Division 1, and I'm still very close to them...however, one memory stands out and it was from this past season. Had a kid whose dad had never been around. He was always getting into trouble. Really athletic, good potential, TERRIBLE attitude towards authority and school. He was just a sophomore, so I decided to give him some "tough attention". At first, he loathed me. Smacked his lips at me, waved me off a few times (which sent me over the top), but then one day after practice I grabbed him and told him what I saw in him. That he could be a positive impact on our team, and that I wasn't going to stop riding him as hard as I was until he either 1) got it right or 2) quit. The choice was his.
That night, while I was sleeping, I got a voicemail and a picture text from him...he had handwritten a letter thanking me for the talk, and saying that I was right. He wanted to grow up, and he wanted to be someone his team could depend on. The rest of the season still had bumps for him, and he is still making progress, but I have to say that moment was one of the greatest feelings/achievements I could ever have in my life.
My road blocks have been a struggle, just like how they are for everyone. I have been trying to get hired into law enforcement for three years, and finally landed a job in my home city. Despite having my Masters, I met with rejection after rejection from various departments; I just kept on applying. It finally paid off and I got offered a position with a great department that happened to be my home city, and I couldn't be happier.
And last but not least...2016 will be the year that I...merge my career and fitness lifestyle! I have always been a student, so fitness has been easy for me. I set my own schedule more or less, and work out when I want to. Now that I have a career (and one that fluctuates hours), I need to time-manage better so I can continue my love for fitness at a pace that is not only healthy for me, but beneficial to my job as well. There are going to be days when getting to the gym is a pain (i.e. coming off third shift at 7 AM, going into court at 9 AM, sleeping for five hours and trying to get in a hour lift before I do it all over again), but I wouldn't have it any other way
Thanks for the promo!
