if the average is 40k, then anybody who actually tries can end up making at least 80k

My goal is $200k before taxes. Some passive Income, the other me working. I want that ballin life style op
The more money you make, the faster you retire. Fuk those average people making an average $40k living average boring lives going on average vacations and then retiring at the average age of 60.

40k is super low. I dont know how you can enjoy life with that kind of salary. If you have a family, its even worse. Dont forget the deductions (taxes, insurance, 401k, more taxes). 40k is simply just not enough
my goal is to have a salary where i dont have to feel guilty spending >$50 for eating out.

Whoever is taking the average as a argument is an idiot.
Average $44,569.20/yr (2014)
Median $28,851.21/yr (2014)
What happens is the multi-millions (billion?) dollar salaries skew the average to the point where the average is almost double the median. Take away the outliers and the real number you should be looking at is 29k.

60k is decent, but 80k is more in line with making it.
Edit
For the record I'm making 33k working part time on internship as I finish my PhD and it's enough to support me and chip away slightly at student loans
True I don't live in big city so cost of living is down, but still.
Some of you just suck at money management if you need 100k plain and simple"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

What most people here are forgetting is that to own a home, most people are doing it on two incomes in high cost of living areas.
I'm fortunate enough to provide for my family on a single income in a high cost of living area, but I've also had a pretty nice income trajectory while working about 40 hours a week or less. It's called having a unique set of skills, and also having a real niche you inhabit with being willing to move around.
I have many coworkers who are making 20-25k less per year, although they are 10-15 years older than I am.
Elsewhere, I've worked places where someone the next salary band below me was making literally half of what I did.
The bottom line is that you don't have any clue of what people are really making until you've worked for a few companies, have some promotions under your belt, and have compared notes with your colleagues.Deuteronomy 28:35

average income is under $50k for a married couple in the US. Misc is delusional about how much money they will be making because its filled with kids that have hopes and dreams....good for you guys, hopefully you dont actually have to face real world realities of being stuck with $25-40k for your entire life like over 60-70% of the US, Im happy I dont have to
and OP is bannedCarb Mal-absorption, no breads, sugary snacks, rice, pasta...live off of 30-40g a day.
