i was promoted to staff without having the resident sgt course done. the reserve sgt course is a 2 week course and is a joke. same with the staff and advanced course. if we're going to do pme, it better be good, not this 2 week bull****. i refused to do the reserve sgt's course. i wanted to do the active duty course. they bitch and complain if you didn't do your command screen sheet and once you did, there was no guarantee that you would have a school seat.

Congrats bro. Keep in mind that money isnt everything. Make sure that you are doing something that makes you happy. Unless you have a bunch of bills and dont mind sucking it up. Invest in your company 401k and save as much as you can. I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks, man. I'll probably bug you from time to time with questions. The money wasn't what attracted me to this company, I didn't even talk salary until the offer came. It was the people, background and company culture. However, it's a very nice bonus. I'm going to enjoy it here, I can already see it. The training, development and mentorship possibilities are definitely great. I did the TSP almost my entire 11.5 years in, plan on doing the same at this company. Already figuring out how much to allot. I don't have too many bills, might buy another car but that's it. Rest is rent, utilities, insurance, phone. Everything else is going into savings/investments.

Everything keeps failing. All of my records are messed up and its so hard to get them to fix it now that i am out. I have had my RELM in for years and today they tell me that they dont have any documentation that I was promoted to Sgt. I have the warrant packed up because I am out in CA and my HHG are in VA. Its like it never ends. I requested a verification of awards and they had awards for III MEF 2003-2005 and CENTCOM 2003-2005 and I wasnt even in Japan then and got off AD in 2003. My brain is fried. I have just about everything digital except for my stupid promotion warrants. Like how does that even happen.

It still shows that I am a CPL. I sent the info in when I got out to have it updated but it never was. When I go back in there is no BIR/BTR or any personal info anymore. I have the promotion warrant and will get it but now I have to have my wife open a bunch of boxes to find it.

This set me off cause she also asked if I could pick up milk so she could make muffins for this camping trip she and I are taking part in.

Am I in the wrong? I told her I'm not her bitch etc and we almost got into a full blown argument over it.

I was also in the middle of eating dinner and she said I could wait til I was done. However, it's 9:15pm and I didn't feel like leaving my apt.

I know I'm just venting, I just hate it when people interrupt my dinner.

Taking a phat pay cut but hoping it will worth it in the end. Have a few questions for you guys

*from the outside looking in, do you feel I'm making a mistake at my age? (Won't change my mind but I like perspective)

*Running 5-7 miles 4-5x a week can easily max crunches but can only do 12-15 pull ups (229 lbs)
will I do better then average at boot?

*whats the reality of taking courses for college while in an infantry contract

*possible to still get lots of pussy while living w/ a bunch of 18 y-o after boot

*Do I have to be God mode at swimming to have a chance at Recon durring SOI? (Know how to swim above avg but don't have an ability to train swimming everyday)

Any other advice and tips? You can call me out my name as well I'm looking any and all advice.

I hope you know what you're getting into going in as an 03. Seems like you're doing this for the education benefits, perhaps another MOS would best suit you

I joined when I was 20, I do wish I had done it sooner. Better late than never. I knew guys that enlisted older than you

When it comes to the PFT, pull ups are the money maker. I forgot the scoring but I'm pretty sure if you miss one pull up you have to take 50 seconds off your run time to make up for it. That's a big difference. In my opinion there's no reason why anyone can't do 20 pull ups

You can do this when you get to the fleet, especially during peacetime. Just do online courses

Yes. Especially in places like Jacksonville. Make sure you wrap it though. With things like Tinder these days it's kinda hard not to get laid

I'm pretty sure you would only get a shot at Recon after SOI is if it's in your contract. You don't do any swimming in SOI, or at least I didn't. They usually offer the PT studs a chance to try snipers.

it really depends on the unit you're at and your mos. i'm a ssgt, so my drills are doing counselings, pg 11s for 1stsgt, non recs, pros/cons, getting drunk every night because lance corporals make me drink....i mean i love them all. i'm also a plt sgt, so i'm pushing papers.

for me drills are fun. other than 1stsgt not shutting up and repeating what he said 2 hours ago (and 2 hours prior to that plus the 4 emails saying the same thing), we get a lot accomplished.
