I'm all for 100% accountability. Nobody is perfect. Place a group of "trained" human beings in sht-yo-pants life or death situation and a majority of them would rely on instincts from millions of years of evolution over a 12 week here's-your-gun-and-badge-go-get-em program.

Did you know that in areas with no speed limits or where the speed limits are increased or decreased, there has never been any correlation between speed limits and total amount of deaths and car accidents?
Why?
People drive the speed they are comfortable.
Speeding tickets are just a revenue source, and speed limits do absolutely nothing to keep the streets safer. All they do is give an officer an excuse to pull someone over.-Voted Gary Johnson in 2012 and Doing it Again 2016-

Clerical work is the lowest common denominator of employment and policing is the lowest common denominator of public service, so yes. I also see no value in police. Why would I ever need to call the police? I have a concealed handgun license, go to the firing range 2-3 times a month, and I know the laws surrounding my state. So if I needed to protect myself, I would be able to with confidence. Actually, the only reason I would ever have to call the police is because of my insurance if something was to get stolen from my apartment or my car gets stolen, only because my policy legally requires a police report before I can file a claim. Other than that, I don't need or want police help and once again, I see ZERO value in their work. Sorry, not sorry.

So much fuking this. These monday morning second guessers are always stuck in their own little social media world where every police mistake is a fuking nationwide news story. Open your fuking eyes to how many people there are in this country, and how many of them are absolute shtheads. Its a testament to the training police in the US receive that mistakes happen so few and far between. And if you think American police aren't among the best trained on the planet, get your head out of your tv/movie/******** brainwashed ass.

Which is exactly why cops should be held to a higher standard, and why us as taxpayers shouldn't just hire any high school drop-out willing to do the job.
Although a lot of the issues between cops and the public stems from poor government policies. If the cops actually focused on real crimes instead of going around looking for potheads and speeders, then that would help. Legalize all victimless crimes, and stop punishing blue-collar criminals harder than white-collar criminals, and that would go a LONG way.
But until then, cops are always going to be seen as bullies and thieves.
Especially when a cop arrested someone for a victimless crime ends up ruining their entire lives, and the cops then feel good about themselves. Congratulations, you busted some guy with a gram of pot, now his name will be in the paper and he won't ever be able to find a decent job. That's a life ruined.
Personally, I think cops need thicker skin. I hate this attitude some have of "well, the cop is being a jerk and he is trying to trick you into thinking you don't have rights so he can ruin your life, but we need to be polite and respectful towards to them because they have a hard job." F*ck that. They chose to do it. If they can't handle it, quit. You'd think people who always talk about how they're always at risk would stop being such p*ssies and b*tches.
Watch as the neg train comes in, only proving my point that a lot of cops and their supporters are emotionally soft because they are coddled.-Voted Gary Johnson in 2012 and Doing it Again 2016-

Hard to believe that the only reasons you would have to call the police is for legal requirements. Do you believe our country would be better off without policing? A safer place? I have my carry license, I own several firearms, and I too go to the range at least twice a month. Am I confident that I can defend myself? In certain but few scenarios yes, but not all situations as you claim.

I neg you because you're negative and I figure you like the negative energy.
That and you're an eagles fan that complains in the walking dead thread.
I do agree with some of your points in the post
But still believe cops and all people deserve respect when working unless they prove otherwise.
Edit i don't neg people because they are eagles fans.Last edited by Creaso; 12-17-2014 at 11:25 PM.

1. A high majority of officers I speak to and work with at times always say, "If the guy is respectful, I'll send them on their way." Even when drugs are brought into the equation, they'll just take the drugs and send them off because they don't want to make their day harder with paperwork and the processes of going through the motions over a little bit of pot.
2. All people should be shown respect. Its called being a mature adult, regardless of occupation or life circumstances."The worst thing I could be is just like everyone else."- Arnold Schwarzenegger.

fukin lol. They get off damn near every time and kill people without repurcussion. Tired of this "they are only human" bullsht. If you have the capacity to ruin or end someones life legally, you cannot make ANY mistakes. if you do, you should be kicked out. Ruining peoples lives isnt someone to mess with.
Pulling people over for bullsht revenue sources. Ruining peoples lives over drug use and acting like they are fighting the good fight. The google self driving car has proven safe with over 100k miles driven, but don't expect it to be legal if the cops have anything to say about it! Less tickets to hand out!
look at these "professionals"! Another honest days work out on the town!

Not gonna lie. Didn't read any of this post except the bolded caught my attention. Mainly because you see, marihuana is illegal. The cop didnt ruin the persons life. He didnt force the person to break the law and have marihuana on his person.
Its like when someone is caught for drunk driving and lose their licence. they blame the cop "oh, your going to make me lose my job. I have to drive to get to my job'. No, YOU made yourself lose your job because YOU decided to break the law.

Yeah, I was going to school to be a cop before switching to nursing. The pay isn't high enough, the criticism is very high and the responsibility huge.
At least in nursing people give you the benefit of the doubt when chit hits the fan.August 2023:

They are held to a higher standard. Apply to any department not desperate for bodies like the major metro areas and good luck getting a job. Most (like 99%) of departments are at least requiring an associates degree and many are requiring a bachelor's.
By the way...stop minimizing speeding as some harmless thing....most accidents have speeding as a factor.
But until then, cops are always going to be seen as bullies and thieves.
