To answer this I will use two athletes who demonstrate what we need to understand.
Look at this one of the current Mr Olympia Phil Heath, the quads are quite big but lack feathers and the over all surface is quite flat a bit like a map of a modern city built on flat land v a historic city such as Bogota in Columbia which is built in the mountains and high altitude, the map of Bogota looks more detailed and complicated more than the city map.
Now look at the second athlete, his quads have deep voids in them like a river has calved out in the mountains over billions of years, the river separates the rugged landscapes, these quads also have feathers. Ramy's quads have outstanding seperation as well as world class size, shape. This is also know as sick quad genetics.
This is the best way I can answer the question so that anyone new to the forum can quickly understand.

ok. lets end this, after looking at pics over and over again. Ramy can hang with Phil simply off of size and width BUT just like his quads, Ramy's back and chest needs that pop and fullness look. Phils muscle bellies is what really helps him and his way of posing to give that "illusion" of being bigger/wider (opens his legs more to make it seem like his more thicker and leans back and tucks his ass on rls to cause a shade from his lats to tail bone to appear wider).
