down syndrome people can function. if it was really mentally disabled then there is no reason to keep it in this day and age when we have the technology to prevent suffering (for the kid and the parents)

are you and her willing to spend the rest of your lives taking care of the kid ? raising a child who has down syndrome isn't a joke and i've seen it tear apart a perfectly healthy family. you should have a sit down with her and really think this through.
good luck!**Knee Draggers Unite**

Herp derp
Any strong parents can instill love into a child. Even if that child has DS or is autistic. You will never find a parent of a child with a disability saying they or their child are suffering.
They don't regret or wish for something else. They love their child just as much as any other.Toxic Masculinity

Serious answer: I lived across the street from a guy and he and his wife were connected at the hip. Always dancing in the wife at night, etc. Had 3 kids anddlife was good. Decided to have one more and BAM...kid had downs and something else that required a wheelchair. Within a year, they dropped $15k on their house to widen door ways, halls, etc. and their marriage began to slip. No more smiles, no more happy times and arguing began. They are still together but both turned heavy drinking and gained a lot of weight; their finances were destroyed.
I'm not going to tell you what you should do because I'm not in your shoes. I wish the best for you and your wife. I think the tough thing is when people have a special needs child, they are the care-givers for 50 years...not 18. My grandparents are 78 and 82 and they still take care of my uncle (has severe cerebral palsy) to this day.
Good luck brother.678/424/700 - USPA Raw International Elite 220

No, but some of the most memorable people in my life thus far have been either downs or autistic. It's ok I realize some people were not raised with the same morals that I was, but I do find it disturbing that so many people are willing to abort for such arbitrary reasons. People wonder why this world is turning into such an utter ****hole and I think the answer is selfishness and ignorance.

All my life I grew up volunteering in various programs. My elementary school had a special division for assisted learning, and we would often 'buddy' with various children who had learning disabilities. This continued into my Junior high, which also had a similar volunteer program. I've spent a good portion of my life growing up around these children.
A lot of you are thinking about how, as parents, you would love these children. But unless you've worked with enough of them, and seen enough of the public's view and treatment... Your view is going to be skewed.
You know what's horrible? Having to come up and defend a child from young adults who are calling them a 'retard' and making him cry. Or seeing how little help these families get in difficult cases. Or knowing how stressful it is when these children have to have heart surgeries numerous times throughout their life. The teasing, the hardship, the emotional stress... It's not easy. In fact, unless you have a support group and a support system like they have in the town I grew up, it's harder than you can imagine. You need people to help you, you need people to assist you. You need financial support from the start to prepare for surgeries later (which WILL happen. It's not an 'if', it's a 'when').
I can name dozens of different people I've volunteered with over the years. And yes, some are just fantastic. They have great senses of humor in many cases, or generally 'enjoy' the little things people take for granted.
But along with that are struggles, and some very dark sides.
After seeing what I've seen, and having spent years working with various programs as a volunteer, I can say that if it came down to my choice and my child, as much as I would love that child, I would not want to put my child through the things I've seen some of these children and young adults go through. I couldn't do it.
OP, it's your choice, but trust yourself and your family's limitations. Be honest. Don't do something because 'it's the right thing' in general. You need to do something because it's the right choice for YOUR LIFE and YOUR FAMILY. If that means keeping the child and putting your heart into it, then yes, you have my support 100%. If you question it, aren't sure, or feel like you can't do it, then maybe aborting is the best option for you at this time.
Either way, good luck OP.Snakes are just tails with faces...

remember that obnoxious retarded kid in 2nd grade that had a funny looking face and some granny following him around writing for him and everyone hated him? That could be your child. ABORT. Doesnt matter if *you* love him, its the rest of the world that will make him miserable. It would be selfish to knowingly bring that child into the world.

this is exactly the reason why i believe aborting down syndrome babies should be ILLEGAL.
it only gives tards an extremely convenient excuse to kill innocent life
I believe all down syndrome babies should be TAKEN AT BIRTH by the state. Putting them up for adoption is a bad idea because the adoption system many times leads to abuse, but the state run programs of taking care of children are highly regulated and safe.
I believe ALL DOWN SYNDROME BABIES should be FORCEFULLY TAKEN by the state and the parents must pass a extremely difficult government test if they want to prove they are capable of taking care of the baby.
If and only if the parents pass the test showing they are intelligent enough to care for the child, then the government will give the family 2000 dollars of taxpayer money to help care for the child.

I would abort...
My grandparents adopted a baby(10 yrs younger than my mom) who turned out to have some form of mental retardation. He is now 38. His medication costs $7,000 per year, as well as putting him in an assisted living facility for mentaly handicapped persons which costs a lot(cant have a retard living with my elderly grandparents, too much work). He ended up getting kicked out of the facility due to behavioural issues. He is now living with my grandparents currently but cant stay for too long, too much work for grandparents. I can tell you he was really tough to raise, lots of behavioural issues, I've witnessed numerous tantrums, etc. He still needs help with basic things such as bathing, shaving, cutting food, tying shoes, etc.
Mentally handicapped persons are ALOT of work to raise and take care of. Like seriously, you think raising a normal kid is tough? try raising a retard.

Do you have any idea how much it would suck for the child to be different from the rest of the world?
Don't let it live through pain and misery, abort it.
*And also, don't forget you'll be wiping its ass and taking care of it 24/7 for the rest of it's life.
A perfect family would become a devastated one.
