how is it debatable that FRANCO's winning the Olympia twice was not a great achievement???
everyone is judged by THEIR PEERS AT THEIR CURRENT TIME......
don't use today's standards on Franco, or any of the guys from the 70s......
he was a Giant in his time...that's all that matters....one of the strongest bodybuilders pound for pound.....and he competed most of his career in the shadow of the legendary Arnold, his friend...not an easy task....

WHA!! Okay, this is the first time I have ever seen someone's chest look like this. Check out the inside of his pecs. See how jagged they are? Do any other pros have pecs like that? I havn't noticed, maybe I am not looking close enough, but my chest looks like that on the inside of the pecs (jagged), and I always thought it was unique and a minus to the overall physique, but now that I see Franco, it's all better

^^^This.
Everyone has the same muscles, but each persons structure is independently unique to the person. You can change the way they develop by lifting, proper nutrition etc., but the way they are structured, tied into one another, or symmetric are just basically genetic structure.
Phil Heath and Kai Greene both have fantastic arms. They both train hard, eat well and supplement, so that part is a wash. They will just never have the same arms because the way their bodies have different structured tie-ins and different length muscle bellies.
For Franco, it was chest. Franco's pec structure was probably the most unique of them all, and was really brought out with all the hard training.

You completely misunderstood me, I did not mean to suggest that he was anything less than a fantastic bodybuilder. However, Franco's second Olympia victory is seen by many to be the most disputed of all time. It is widely believed that he was simply "handed" the Sandow by Arnold. I'm not an expert on the Golden Age of bodybuilding, and as such don't have the specific competitors of that year memorized, but there have been multiple threads talking about how he did not deserve that second victory.

I've heard the same thing. I've heard how Arnold's seventh was controversial, and the following year, when Franco came back, the feelings were the same.
But I also feel that Arnold rightfully deserved his 7th so... Don't know much about what happened at the O that Franco won his second, but since there was been so much controversy over both Arnold and him, and Arnold deserved it, I am willing to believe franco earned it too.Bench: 215x12 (17/12/2011) PR since torn RC

There's no doubt in my mind that Arnold deserved his 7th. A quick quote on the 1981 Mr.Olympia:
Columbu's thighs were notably downsized, the result of a strongman injury years prior. The winner was not at his best, but Chris Dickerson (second), Roy Callendar (fourth) and Danny Padilla (fifth) were. And to say Tom Platz (third) was "at his best" would be an understatement. He shocked the bodybuilding world with new upper-body sinew and legs--already the world's best-- which, some believe even today have not been equaled.BB.com OG

and THIS is your basis for slighting the man???
are you telling me that there haven't been debatable Olympias SINCE then???
some of Cutler's "victories", some of Ronnie's "victories"??
there will NEVER be a shortage of controversy in a sport that is totally subjective, that is the problem....
there has never been true uniformity in the judging principles of bodybuilding, nor will there ever be, the way the sport has been handled......
All of the contestants are subject to these whims: in some cases, there are modern bodybuilders who have both benefited AND suffered from these inequities.....
just part and parcel of the whole game, unfortunately.....
but regardless of what does or does not go their favor in way of competitions, pictures don't lie, and they are all fabulous for their times.....

x2. It was pretty clear that Franco looked bad. Yes, it's subjective, but when someone without a doubt looks bad, it's damn near objective. That's like saying **** smells good (smell being subjective), but when the rest of the world disagrees, it kinda becomes unanimous that **** indeed smells bad.
Strange analogy, but don't worry about it.
That being said, I think Franco was a good bodybuilder. Not my favorite by any means, but definitely had some strong points (strength obviously as well).OG 2004 Join Date
