Repped.
Not a fan of the booze myself, I've seen too many horror stories, have lost friends and family to alcoholism and drunk drivers... and tend to take a dim view on intoxication and the concept of "getting drunk is fun". There is a distinction between getting drunk (abuse), or getting into fights when they drink (abuse), or getting behind the wheel of a car when they've had a few drinks (abuse) and someone having a glass of wine or a beer with a meal (use), or likes a drink from time to time after a long day before bed (use) ... so am by no means calling for the outlaw of alcohol.

I don't really support the idea of flat out "no alcohol ever" approach. Seems like Paleo. Let's cut something out arbitrarily when it could indeed be consumed in moderation and actually have it possibly be good for you.
A nice cold one after a hard days work, sitting in a comfy chair and turning on the TV or just chilling. Yeah. A single beer or a glass of wine, some scotch on the rocks or whatever - can't see fault in that.Owner of:

I am regularly getting really ****-faced (not that I try, it just happens, as if by magic!), and I have never hurt myself or others in the process. And I would never get behind the wheel, either.
It all depends on what kind of drunk one is, I guess. Angry drunks are awful, drunk drivers are even worse.
OH MY GOD I LOVE EVERYONE-drunks like me are awesome. Or so I have been told.

Congrats OP. The decision you make won't be easy depending on the types of people you hang around, but stick with it and I'm sure you won't regret it.

Have you ever heard of alcoholism? Someone with an addictive personality (in this case alcohol) cant have "just one drink." Its a disease.
Good for you on recognizing a problem and addressing it before it turns into a massive downward spiral. What's Spicy Training For?? LIFE MOTHER F-ER!

Seems more comparable to an Eating Disorder to me. Total avoidance isn't a cure. And as such I'll never approve of it either.
Such people should seek Professional help, advising them to simply cut out the food item or drink is not doing them any favors IMO. Because it seems exactly the opposite of what many of us promote around here. Anything can be consumed in moderation and should in fact be done so for better adherence to dietary/physical goals and a better psychological profile.Last edited by ArchangelEST; 02-26-2012 at 11:13 AM.
