    Today I quit drinking.

    Cliffs:

-Used to drink everyday before I could even buy booze legally for almost a year
    -Got Fat
    -Got into bodybuilding
    -Rarely drink for a while
    -Got drunk today
-Realize (while drunk) I don't even like being drunk anymore
    -Giving up drinking for good.

    inb4 cool story bro

You can drink and not get drunk. Nothing like a good IPA with Mexican food.

    Repped.

Not a fan of the booze myself, I've seen too many horror stories, have lost friends and family to alcoholism and drunk drivers... and tend to take a dim view on intoxication and the concept of "getting drunk is fun". There is a distinction between getting drunk (abuse), or getting into fights when they drink (abuse), or getting behind the wheel of a car when they've had a few drinks (abuse) and someone having a glass of wine or a beer with a meal (use), or likes a drink from time to time after a long day before bed (use) ... so am by no means calling for the outlaw of alcohol.

I don't really support the idea of flat out "no alcohol ever" approach. Seems like Paleo. Let's cut something out arbitrarily when it could indeed be consumed in moderation and actually have it possibly be good for you.

A nice cold one after a hard days work, sitting in a comfy chair and turning on the TV or just chilling. Yeah. A single beer or a glass of wine, some scotch on the rocks or whatever - can't see fault in that.

I am very negative towards alcohol abuse and do not see an issue with that either as it is unlikely that you'll kill anyone, harm anyone or even harm yourself if that is where it stops. Oh wait carbs after 6 pm... you gone get fat! :O

I am regularly getting really ****-faced (not that I try, it just happens, as if by magic!), and I have never hurt myself or others in the process. And I would never get behind the wheel, either.

It all depends on what kind of drunk one is, I guess. Angry drunks are awful, drunk drivers are even worse.
OH MY GOD I LOVE EVERYONE-drunks like me are awesome. Or so I have been told.

Eh, I really can't drink socially, I always try to limit myself but once I get a few drinks in me I end up going crazy with it.

    Thanks for the support all.

I am usually hunting for a place to take a nap after 1 drink now. I enjoy being a cheap date.

Have you ever heard of alcoholism? Someone with an addictive personality (in this case alcohol) cant have "just one drink." Its a disease.

I used to be like you OP...now I'm able to go out once or twice a month, have 3-4 drinks and be social about it. Congrats if you do decide to stay sober though.

Seems more comparable to an Eating Disorder to me. Total avoidance isn't a cure. And as such I'll never approve of it either.

Such people should seek Professional help, advising them to simply cut out the food item or drink is not doing them any favors IMO. Because it seems exactly the opposite of what many of us promote around here. Anything can be consumed in moderation and should in fact be done so for better adherence to dietary/physical goals and a better psychological profile.

I'm with you, but I think some views on alcohol are different on this side of the pond.

Might be because it's such a "taboo".
Drinking age around here (for wine and beer anyway) is 16, and that seems to give us a more relaxed perspective.

I drink maybe once every other month, if that. I never just drink for the hell of it though. If I'm drinking, it's because I plan on getting drunk.

    Good job though, OP.
