Benching to failure without a spotter

I am working out at a cheap university gym. There are very few machines so I have to do standard bench press with a barbell. I'm a bit scared of benching to failure when I'm on my own (I prefer working out without a buddy; I've tried with one and it didn't work out as well as when I lift on my own).

Usually my left arm goes first and my form is rubbish on that last rep. Once I got stuck under the bar, but I had Youtubed the death roll and kind got out of it without injury.
I'm following the allpro beginner's workout in the Sticky's.
    Any advice?

Dumbells force stability and encourage equal growth in BOTH pec's and doesn't allow a dominating side to push a majority of the weight.

I'd suggest warming up with barbell then switching to dumbbells when it gets heavy not to mention you wont need a spotter.
    lol

Firstly you can always ask someone in the gym for a spot, I´ve never seen anyone refuse.

Second, you don´t have to train to failure, at least not all the time. If you´ve been training for a while, you´ll start to get a feel for what you can do and what you can´t so you will know where your physical limits lie.
    Strength + Speed = Power

If you never fail, you aren't truly pushing yourself to the limit. If you never push yourself to the limit, how do you know what you're truly capable of?

Best solution: don't train to failure.

Haha, not sure if being sarcastic here, but I suppose you are. Anyway, I know that training to failure may seem very rewarding, but especially when training for strength, it's just unnecessary load on your CNS. Check out Jason Blaha's video on training to failure.

Was not being sarcastic. Was thanking all of above posters. But thank you for the clarification. It inspired me to research the "lifting to failure" mindset. Found some interesting stuff. Thanks

You don't train to failure without a spotter. This rule is relaxed when using DBs, but even then you should be cautious.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

just ask someone politely for a spot. You will meet some people this way too. If you do not want to do that just use dumbbells.
