https://www.lipid.org/nla/national-l...-carb-and-veryAmong the key takeaways included in the statement:
Low- and very-low-carbohydrate diets, including ketogenic diets, are not superior to other weight loss diets and may severely restrict nutrient-dense foods that offer cardiovascular benefits.
While they may have advantages on appetite and reducing triglyceride levels and diabetes medication use, current evidence showed mixed effects on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels.
There is no clear evidence for advantages related to other cardiometabolic risk markers.
While some patients prefer a low-carbohydrate eating pattern, which may be reasonable for short periods of time (<6 months), long-term compliance is challenging, and long-term benefits and risks are not fully understood.
Regardless of the weight loss strategy chosen, a patient-clinician discussion about the risks and benefits and patient preference is of vital importance, since many patients follow the diets without medical supervision, which can increase the risk of adverse effects.

Pretty good in-depth article will have to read it all when I get the time.
I do find it crazy that followers of Keto believe that complete elimination of some of the most nutrition dense food sources namely some veg, most fruit, wholegrain and legumes would actually be healthy after all the studies supporting their benefits.
As for weight loss still can't understand why anyone questions that calories dictate weight for all healthy individuals not macros is beyond me.
Thanks for the post some very good info plus lots of references to expand into for further analysis.

Kinda funny watching Keto die it's deserved slow death. Most of the big OG talking heads such as Robb Wolf have quietly moved on and started adding carbs back into their diet. The only folks actively promoting it are those with an actual financial interest in Keto staying relevant.
IIRC, I heard there is another metabolic ward study with Gary Taubes' foundation that is in progress? The last one flopped, and Gary tried to blame it on the methodology. I think the one in progress follows a protocol approved by GT, so I wonder if he is still going to fly the Keto flag if/when the study flops?

I think Attia has said some things to that extent. He has left NuSi quite a while ago.

Finally.
Unfortunately, keto just started to rise in my country.“Fight one more round. When your feet are so tired that you have to shuffle back to the centre of the ring, fight one more round. When your arms are so tired that you can hardly lift your hands to come on guard, fight one more round. When your nose is bleeding and your eyes are black and you are so tired you wish your opponent would crack you one on the jaw and put you to sleep, fight one more round – remembering that the man who always fights one more round is never whipped.”

Yup. The Mind Pump guys made the exact same prediction.
I wonder if they are going to compare and contrast that handful of cherry picked vegan athletes to the tens of thousands of world class athletes who have omnivorous diets? Not likely.
I heard there are NBA and NFL players who have giant bags of peanut butter M&Ms in their locker. Maybe that's the secret to athleticism?

Have we seen an influx of people claiming IF is the holy grail of fat loss and muscle gain? Yup.
Have we seen an influx of people claiming keto is the healthiest thing ever and will heal all disease? Yup.
Get ready for a sudden increase of vegan militants claiming that going vegan is the key to becoming ripped and healthier than ever.

As a CPT I have clients asking for diet advice all the time and each time it's usually along the lines of......
What do you think of the so and so diet and what do you think of this diet?
I usually say....Not much lol
As Adam said, this will continue because there's money to be had in brainwashing the public with silly diet nonsens
The clients are very desperate to get to their goal quick and they believe the fad diets will get them there quicklyNASM CPT
