Because you're hitting those muscle groups with your compound movements already, so you throw in some accessory moves to aid the workout
twice a week is good enough in addition to your compound movements. try to hit your entire core too instead of just abs

after workouts, when you wake up. its protein. you should be getting most of it by meals anyways
