Why is he comparing apples to oranges? Wouldn't it make more sense to compare the average american wage today with the top 1% net worth 47 years ago vs the top 1% net worth today? And why 47 years ago? Sounds like aids cherry picking to me unless someone can show me real non click bait stats.

Is this about taxes or what? Bezos sold 10 billion worth of stock in 2020. At A capital gains tax rate if 20% It's well over 1 billion in taxes. Nobody has copies of his tax returns but I'm sure it's offset by tens of millions of charitable donations that emoloy hundreds if not thousands of people too.

That's all it is.
In 2017, the top 1 percent of taxpayers accounted for more income taxes paid than the bottom 90 percent combined. The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid roughly $616 billion, or 38.5 percent of all income taxes, while the bottom 90 percent paid about $479 billion, or 29.9 percent of all income taxes.

lol @ defining poverty by wage alone with no acknowledgement or consideration of CPI.
BRB I'm a poor American with a car, an iPhone, a tablet, a laptop, a 50" TV, the world's reserve currency that lets me spend money in almost any country at twice if not thrice the rate of my own, and three credit cards.
Strong understanding of the reality of global poverty.

Notice how he said the average worker is making $30 less per week factoring in inflation
And then compares that figure to the net worth of the top 1%
Why not compare both net worths? How much more net worth does the average worker have in 2020 relative to 47 years ago?
Would he use the same statistics (salary relative to inflation) if he got the minimum wage increase he always preaches?Horny.

If the hourlies don't like their pay, they should unionize and fight for "equitable pay" like the generations before them instead of expecting everything to be handed to them.

Bernie is only complaining about this because he wants their money for what he thinks it should be spent in. Thing is the billionaires don't have the kind of money he wants to spend. When they're broke, he'll move on to the millionaires. Then everyone making over 100k. Eventually, the entire middle class will be shamed into paying a 90% tax rate.
