Seems like Phil hit his peak in 2011 and has only been going downhill since. Has he started to cross that Plaumboism line?
I was shocked at his midsection this year, it was absolutely horrible.

He seems to have changed the way he is posing. He isn't flexing the abs anymore at all and instead is bringing out his lats more and upping his chest and that is sacrificing stomach detail. That is a perfectly fine strategy, considering that abs aren't a priority in that pose, especially if you don't have good abs anyway. Phil has zero reason to even try showing abs here. He is better off looking wider, than showing that weak 4-pack. You can pose in front of a mirror and try this - if you don't flex the abs and instead try to bring out the lats as much as possible while elevating your chest, you simply lose stomach detail, unless you are very lean and have a very solid set of abs.
Unfortunately it's clear that Phil was a bit bloated and that made his midsection look even worse in that pose. Still, I would not hold it against him too much, it's not technically a "show your abs" pose.
I also think that the lighting/tanning color/oil is messing with our perceptions a little, especially in a non-ab dominant pose when those abs are so hard to see anyway. It is actually incredibly important to get your tan/oil right and it can totally change your physique if you aren't spot on. Seriously, you can lose years of gains by having a bad tan color, or badly applied tan and oil. That's why I don't want to get too definitive with claims here. Bodybuilding physiques hinge so badly on so many constantly changing factors.
Losing your abs in the front lat spread is not hard. Add some bloat to a high chest, max witdh spread and ta-da. From some angles, most guys lose nearly all ab detail.
I do think he looked better in previous years, but that opinion is subjective and debatable.Owner of:

You can watch Kai's routine now........btw listen very closely when he is just about to start posing. You can hear CT fletcher screaming "KAI GREENE, I COMMAND YOU TO WIN" or something like that.

Ramy killed Branch in muscularity, proportion, symmetry and the fact that his physique doesn't look like a bag of dog crap put together. Yes Branch was grainy and in nasty condition, so what? Is that all we're looking at these days. So daym tired to read posts or comments like this like conditioning is the end all. It is the separating factor WHEN ALL OTHER THINGS ARE EQUAL. Ramy takes a giant dump on Branch's physique in all other areas. (MD Lex1247)
