Mech, I have always wanted to ask a question about the design of the monolift arm. Is that something you drew up and have to create each time you make them, or was it a pre-manufactured part that goes to something else, and you just thought would make a perfect swing arm?

Hopefully that question makes sense, I just wondered how you came up with that unique design for the j-hook area that holds the bar.

No, I drew it up and have to get it laser cut and then weld the 2 halves and the 3 plates (2 sides, one in front) every time. The design progression is somewhere in this thread. It evolved through a few versions before ending up like it is now. First time I held uhmw that way was on my own "full size" monolift hooks. There's a seperate thread on here. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=159549961

    Holy $hit. What a beast.

For $hits and giggles I'd love to see you build a full size all out dedicated mono just to see what you end up doing with it from a design perspective. Maybe you end up improving what is today 'state of the art'. You definitely have a way of thinking outside the box and making logical functional and often simple improvements that others don't "see".

At one end of the innovation spectrum could be Rogue's Mono Stand (boggles my mind) and who knows what you come up with on the other.

Very cool, I remember seeing that now! I like your design for holding the UHMW in place, unlike Rogue it should be pretty simple to replace when/if it wears down.

Wish I had the time, skills, and resources to make things like this on my own, I don't think I would ever leave my garage if that were the case! Especially with the demand, could make a fortune here just making all the stuff Rogue forgets to think about.

Mech, on this point, what do you think of Chris Duffin's monolift that he made? I think he calls it a "superlift". His gym--Elite Performance Center--has 2 or 3 of them.

Only saw short videos of it, so can't really comment. Uses a chain block to vary height. He was supposed to sell them, but I don't think he ever did.

Would of liked that but no one requested one and I train alone so it wouldn't be useful for me. It needing an extra person to operate means it's not as attractive in a home gym situation. I do have some plans for a rack mounted one (similar to the efs monorack, but without being so ridiculous), but again, needs a second person to swing the hooks.
The one I'm using now (inspired by crepinsek's full beam design) works fine for me.

Which j-cup did I get again? I should've gotten both sizes, I realize now. And that "marital aid" looks hot, BTW.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

In January I ordered a red GH Roller, as well as his last index chin for a rack I didn't yet have but planned to order. Now that I've received and assembled my new Dynamic Fitness rack, I was able to try out the index chin.

It came in a rather heavy, large box that the postal worker wasn't too happy to carry to the front desk. The box contained approximately 30 cubic feet of bubble wrap along with the two index chin arms, and a set of 2" fat grips I could swap out if I so desired.

I'm sure there's something buried beneath all that plastic

The fat grips appeared to be made of depleted uranium and weigh about 10 lbs each (Not really, but I've never seen handles that overbuilt, except maybe on an Abrams tank).

    Yeah, that's totally not overkill

After getting my rack, I ordered a single 2x3 upright from Rogue to swap out with the existing pullup bar. They don't list individual 2x3 or 3x3 cross members on their site, but they'll sell them to you if you contact them directly. It cost me $50 + shipping.

I mounted them 24" on center.

I really enjoy doing weighted pullups. It's one of the few exercises that doesn't cause some injured part of my body to complain, and this is about the most versatile pullup contraption you can buy. As expected, packaging was overdone, the arms themselves were overbuilt, and I'm very happy with the finished result.

I can imagine. I use manual hoists at work all the time. They have huge ratios, meaning it takes forever to lift something just a short distance.

It's takes longer than you think! After 2 months of using them I still find myself walking out the warmup sets.

The good news is that I saw an immediate 10-15# bump on the heavy sets from a better, tighter setup. About 5-10# on bench.

I actually backtracked again on bench, going back to regular j-hooks. I just can't get into a good setup with the bar swinging freely, I don't like having to push it outward to unrack. Works out well though, I keep the mono's in squat position and can leave the j-hooks in the bench position.

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

The set up looks great. The dumbbell handle in the bar storage made me laugh for some reason.

This is one of the main reasons that I wanted them. I tried lifting with the Rogue monolifts and was amazed at how squatting felt without the walkout, when I remembered to, you know, not walk out.

I'll have to see how I like it for bench. I only bench in the half rack right now as the safeties/hooks/bench line up perfectly for me (and pretty much no one else).

Thanks! It's not quite Legendary, but I like it. There's a tub of MaxJelq® liquid chalk just off camera. Better grip, less mess.

I should really buy/make a wall mount holder for my handles, curl bar, and other odds and ends. The rack vertical bar holders are useless for 7' bars in an 8' basement.Too many other things queued up ahead of it for now, but eventually.

Mech should fire his sales department for not upselling a second set of monohooks for the guy with 2 racks. Good looking setup though. The blue is not often seen but looks real nice.

I ended up doing the same after a brief stint. I'll give it another try at some point but at a minimum I don't find myself wanting to move the heavy monos around for it.
