I honestly donīt get kipping, their big argument (correct me if I'm wrong) is 'kipping allows you to go high reps'......in my book....getting stronger allows you to do more reps.
So why is everyone on crossfit kipping, instead of just aiming for 10-30 normal pullups/chinups by getting strong, which is still pretty high rep imo.

Kipping is like doing partial reps on a benchpress

You'd probably have to go to the crossfit website to get crossfitters' opinions on why they do what they do.
Not much love for it on any bodybuilding sites, especially this one.No brain, no gain.

Who cares? Unless one of them accidentally kicked you in the face while doing it, i'm pretty sure it's not hurting you. Worry about your own training and let those potatoes keep spinning their wheels.

I guess my job today is to throw a giant monkeywrench into the OPs logic. Look up the terms 'board pressing' and 'pin pressing' before you talk shmack about partial reps in benching.
The strongest benchers in the world use these techniques as a regular part of their training.
On to the crossfit thing...
As it has already been stated, the goals are different for powerlifting training, Olympic lift training, bodybuilding training, and crossfit/functional training. With different goals comes different techniques.
One of the goals of bodybuilding to develop the physique... One of the goals of functional training is to develop the technique and athletic ability to perform the move as efficiently as possible. If you are a rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, etc., having mastered the kip technique through heavy repetition in training can assist you in being as efficient as possible on hundreds of instances on the way to the top when you simply need to lift yourself.
Having the prettiest muscles from using strict technique through the deepest range of motion kinda doesn't matter in that scenario, now does it??"I am only one man, but I am a strong man."
