    Exercising after Food

Is a recipe for disaster I would think, especially anything cardio based. So therefore how long do you have to leave it from eating a main meal to exercising?

I like to workout in the evenings, that's when I feel most alive and I also think it's better for me because I can fuel properly during the day.

So as a general rule, about three hours after eating for cardio work?

Then for lifting/ strength exercises, do you have to wait so long?

    Thanks

I eat pasta about 2 hours before, then a rye bread and jelly sandwich right before I leave for the gym.

It's really personal preference. IMO being full is better than being hungry.

Thanks guys. I waited three hours and felt fine just to be safe. Seems like 2 hours is the norm. Cheers.

I wait around 1-2 hours because you have to wait for the food to digest.

I usually lift 30-45 minutes after eating chicken and rice, I start and end with a bit of cardio and I've been fine every time.

Answer: Depends on what you ate and how much AND what type of workout you plan on doing after. Enough fat in your bloodstream can inhibit carbs from being taken up by your muscles, but then it depends on how much fat you ate, how much time before your workout, etc. Certain foods will stay in your stomach longer since they take longer to digest and can cause GI distress. Eating before you workout is fine and probably a good idea, eating a steak dinner an hour before you run a 10k is probably not

Best answer. It doesn't have to be fat-free, but low-fat is a good idea if you tend to feel queasy.
