JPP right now, Aldon Smith in the future.
Aldon Smith is only scratching the surface of his potential, he can pack on another 10-15 pounds on his frame still and as he develops, he's only going to become more of a nightmare. He's also on the verge of breaking the rookie sack record this season. Has 13, needs 1.5 more I believe.Russell Wilson, the first QB in NFL history to throw a game-winning interception.

Miller seems to be about as a complete 3-4 OLB as can be. didn't watch enoughof the game tonight to judge Smith's play against the run tough.
Also it helps millers case in my eyes that Derrick Thomas is his idol. elway picked him because he reminded him of thomas, and he wears #58 in honor of him.You gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie

Von Miller is a more complete player currently, but Aldon Smith is absolutely unblockable at times. He doesn't just go around offensive linemen, he goes right through them. In the next few years we'll see what happens as both players improve but I like Aldon Smith's ridiculous off-the-wall potential. Breaking the rookie sack record could only be the start.Russell Wilson, the first QB in NFL history to throw a game-winning interception.

as a Raider fan, I'd take JPP. Kelly/Seymour can be rotated with Houston, who can shift inside when needed to his natural position. Put JPP on LE, with Houston/Seymour/Kelly rotating inside and out, and Shaughnessey on the right end. AND you've got Wimbley lining up on passing downs? Best pass rush in the league.

Von started at Will against the Pats. JPP plays 4-3 defense end but he was a prospect for either scheme. Demarcus ware plays OLB in the 34 but it doesn't mean he can't play in the 43. There's a certain skillset thats needed to play in different 34 schemes. Hip Fluidity and ability to set the edge are the two most important in determining if a DE can play in the 34 as an outside linebacker and JPP can certainly set the edge. He's a freak athlete so I wouldn't doubt that he can play some zone and his long arms would help in clogging passing lanes.

He played 4-3 OLB as a junior, 3-4 OLB as a senior, and is a 4-3 OLB/DE in the NFL. Yea, he plays every down, and drops to end almost half the time. He is good in coverage and also way better than Aldon in run defense. He has the 2nd most TFL in the NFL (JPP is tied)... The guy is simply having the best rookie season for a linebacker in a long time, he looks like an elite player, and it will be awesome to see the defense that they build around him and Dumervil.

Meh, Aldon Smith has the most sacks per snap in the NFL. Your claim that he is so "beyond" Aldon Smith in run defense is retarded. Aldon Smith is fine against the run, his issue is defending against the pass as he is still very raw, that is the only thing that has limited him but otherwise he's an absolute menace.Russell Wilson, the first QB in NFL history to throw a game-winning interception.

I'm not saying aldon isn't going to be better than Von, because his upside is enormous. I can't imagine him with a full offseason...
I am saying that it is unheard of for a player to excel at two positions, neither of which he played his senior year of college. It shouldn't go unnoticed, that's all.

I resent the idea that Von Miller is "so beyond" Aldon in anything. He's a very good player and they both have different strengths. Miller is a better all-around linebaccker while Aldon is a better overall pass-rusher. Smith left college as a junior and has more sacks with less snaps than Miller. He's also held up well against the run, he hasn't been a full-time starter because he needed to develop pass coverage skills which he wasn't asked to do in college. However his play as of late has been so outrageous that you simply can't keep the guy off the field, pass coverage skills or not.
In anycase, I don't think either Denver or San Francisco will ever regret picking either one of these players.Russell Wilson, the first QB in NFL history to throw a game-winning interception.
