So a guy at work today told me he is on a no carb diet. The only way he gets it is through veggies, meat, nuts etc. He isn't eating anything that is high in carbs like bread or any sugars/fruits etc. He was telling me that the body doesn't use carbs as energy like alot of people think. Instead the body uses the protein and fat ingested for energy. He kept going on about insulin and stuff too. Just was looking for others opinions on the matter.

I cant remember where but i remember reading something about ketones and how they are some kind of "poison" or whatever that your body produces, can someone explain or verify some truth of ketones, and also is it actually healthy for your body to go day by day with the food intake being mostly fat/protein, however I am aware of the weekly or bi weekly "carb ups".

Aren't you supposed to have carb refeeds on keto once per week or something like that?
And your friend is most likely an idiot (especially his insulin mumblings, I will assume, thou his claim that body doesn't use carbs but rather protein for energy is probably one of THE dumbest things I have ever heard)

This was not by choice, this was by necessity and lack of food processing and storage technologies. I can guarantee if the cavemen had access to bread and pasta, they would have eaten it too. Paleolithic humans also had to fight off animals many times their size with rocks and sticks, now we have high caliber weapons for protection. Evolution is not a bad thing.
No, if you eat more calories than you expend, it doesn't matter where they come from, they will be stored because your body has no immediate demand for them.USAF- Q13S3E

well fruit only when it was found. Given man came out of Africa... fruit is pretty prevalent there year round.
But they didn't have access to bread and pasta...your cells don't really care what was available or not, people were not exposed to that though.
You know technology can be a bad thing right?
It is always about making the logical choice.
I am sure once they found out about poisonous berries, they didn't eat those any longer.
Once they figured out they shouldn't drink salt water or they would die, they didn't eat it any longer.
The same thing when humans discover certain diets benefit them more than the other, and many people benefit by not eating bread and pasta.
Humans have done MANY detrimental things to themselves over the course of time.
High agricultural production has been absolutely detrimental to the planet, but keeps more people alive. It doesn't mean they are necessarily in perfect health though, but it keeps them alive long enough to reproduce.@__@
