I think when you do exercises such as squats and deads, your tolerance of fatigue and pain goes up. If you have not experienced a hard leg workout with squats, you haven't experienced shiatt.

The argument isn't whether or not squatting/deadlifting will increase the weight of your bench. The argument is that you will have increased muscle growth throughout your entire body by incorporating these movements. Your back and legs are your two largest muscle groups. The squat and deadlift incorporate almost every muscle in your body when done correctly and allow you to use larger amounts of weight compared to isolation excercises. By that logic how can you deny that they are more beneficial in terms of muscle growth its just plain stupidity?

NEVER DO SQUATS OR DEADLIFTS!!! The more people that do squats and deadlifts the more massive people there will be roaming the planet and the less unique it will be. I say, don't do squats or deadlifts and let me do them for you! Also when you meet people that don't ever do squats or deadlifts, tell them that they look huge and have incredible muscle mass, then when they're not watching, load the bar up and deadlift like there's no tomorrow!!

I don't know about the hormone relaese, but squats and deads are definitely excellent exercises for the entire body. They don't just engage your legs, but many other muscle groups, as well.
Yeah, if you work your bench hardcore with proper form, you'll develop nice pecs, tris, and delts. But if you don't do squats or deadlifts, you'll have a hard time developing nice quads, hamstrings, glutes, and spinor erectae, not to mention calves from calf raises. These are some of the largest muscle groups in your body.
Not to mention that squats and deadlifts work many upper body muscles as well, particularly the deadlift. They are the best overall compound movements out there.

07-02-2012, 05:09 AM #58“The problem with many hypertrophy-based programs is that they leave out the strength component. You might get bigger as a result of the program, but if you don’t get any stronger you’re still a chump in my book. That’s right, I don’t care how big you are, if you aren’t strong you’re a sham. Having big muscles and no strength is the training equivalent of wearing a strap-on. All show and no go. End of story.” - Jim Wendler
