I don't like that, it seems like one leg would get strenthened over time than the other, I'd rather jerk it up and land on both feet. Can you not do this?

If you are built well for a power jerk, then it might be fine. The split jerk doesn't develope much of an imbalance. You can always test your individual leg strength, and then add extra lunges for the weaker leg, if you have one.
"However, the strength of the hamstring muscles is crucial to fully exploit the strength potential of the quads and ultimately the vertical force that the athlete is able to impart to the barbell." - Andrew Charniga, Jr.

My Chinese coach ONLY and let me repeat, ONLY recommends that you do power jerks, if;
1. Your overhead squat is phenomenal (Chinese overhead squats are higher than their front squats)
2. Your core is ridiculously strong (We spend about 20 minutes after each training session to train our cores)
3. You have tremendous shoulder and wrist flexibility.
Many times, we find ourselves dropping into the squat and then falling off because of the increased height of the bar, causing a leverage imbalance. Some of us, (Me included) can drop into the squat and get up, and complete the lift, but our wrists tend to hurt the heck out afterwards.
At the moment, as long as my core isn't strong enough and my overhead squats don't reach 140KG minimum, I'm sticking to the split style.

Video of Chad Becker. Really impressive performance in the snatch, but I'd say his performance on the C+J definitely motivated me to stick to split jerks. I think he definitely could've made those jerk attempts if he'd been training split jerk style...I've seen guys come back from difficult cleans to pull off a split jerk, but every time I see a difficult clean followed by a power/squat jerk, they always bail the jerk.gympunk - "Thank God my wife hasn't ever been bothered by cum shooting around."
