The research that's out there on this subject really isn't very good. The reality is weight lifting is no different than any other movement based activity. Young kids <13yo don't have any issue performing various lifts, the issue is that they lack motor control especially on the eccentric and don't yet have the hormone profile to really recover and build. This is likely the reason why weight training is not recommended until kids reach puberty. That said, I have people bringing in kids as young as 10yo to start training, and while we teach them some of the lifts, we focus most of the work on running based movements and body weight strength exercise since they just lack the eccentric control to really perform many weighted lifts correctly. There's certainly value to learning these movement patters early on though because once the hormones kick in, their strength improves fast. This is essentially what the Russians did during the Spartakiade.

Thanks for the input everyone. Right now it's purely about having fun and spending time together. He's got no pressure to do anything he doesn't want to do.
For now with lifting I got that bar so he can learn the technique and form. For deadlifts or any pull off the floor the bumpers are used to get better position and for everything else right now it's just the bar and collars on it. No expectations or need to do anything more any time soon. He's very excited he can do just that right now.

Hi everyone, I first posted in El Cheapo Setup (pg 21; #614). Wanted to provide a quick update (and huge thanks). I have overcome my apprehension of building my home gym and have acquired several pieces of equipment. Just got my latest (Steel Climber)!!!!
Now I need the bb/plates for the rack. Though, I spotted an GHD by Power Lift that I’d like to get. Trying to figure out how to convince Hubby that “I need it.” I’ve got the cash, just need his muscle. Ha, ha! I still need to move stuff around...but wanted to share pics, so far.
Y’all have a great day and thank you all for the awesome posts!

Ab 2.0
Got this beast today. Initial impressions are absolutely perfect bench. Someone mentioned might be C123C that Rogue does not get enough credit on this bench. I agree. Granted I did not use as many benches as some of the members around here like say UL, Bench etc.. but I am totally impressed .
Beats 5435. Weight wise it did not seem that heavy , yes it is heavier than 5435 but did not feel like 40 lbs more heavy. Could be my adrenaline rush
Padding is way harder than 5435 and FB-5000. Granted this bench was only for flat benching as per seller and only year old.
Plus it has rubber feet both front and back. Whoa....lol.. jk folks. I did dragged it around the room where there is only carpet.
If Rogue offers color options for padding and frame , you cannot beat it. The ladder style really solid.I think I found a keeper for bench even though I like white frames.
It was one of the few things that looks better in person than in pics. Other one is RM-6 uprights in satin black.

Nice pick up. It was me who commented. I have the 1.0 and the 2.0 (while not more functional as it's roughly the same) is a fit/finish/use refinement upgrade in a number of areas...such that I'm almost tempted to upgrade. It's a fabulous bench and priced very fairly for what it is. The pads themselves are fantastic, perfect dimensions, firmness and grip...though this is somewhat personal I've yet to find anyone try it out and not be wowed. Honestly I've owned mine for a few years now and I continue to be thrilled with the original purchase and impressed every time I use it. You can pay more, you can get different options like pop pins, but from function and usability I think it's about as good as it can get and well priced for what it delivers.

You dudes are killing me. I think I'm finally ready to say goodbye to my Rogue flat bench and upgrade to the Rogue 2.0 or AB-2/3 (seriously can't fit both a flat and adjustable in my gym. lol). Just kicking myself for not doing this on Black Friday for the $5 shipping. I'm not sure I can stomach buying new and pay the $150-200 shipping.. ugh.
Edit: just checked actual shipping.. $147.50. Not TERRIBLE, but still.. not $5.Last edited by thejosef; 01-10-2018 at 11:04 AM.

I heeded to the advice/suggestion given to me by Bench aficionado of the forum aka UL. I waited for little more than 6 months for this bench to be bought at "appropriate" price.
So there is that..
Bench ,
That was nice floor mat from your wife. Good sense of humor.I might need that.[M]===[6]▪ Mech6 Crew #35 ▪[M]===[6]
