Question Triceps - Long head help please

What exercises do you guys recommend for the long head of the triceps ?

    See picture --> http://www.exrx.net/Muscles/TricepsBrachii.html

If I straighten/flex my arm, then I can feel and see the lateral and medial heads coming along nicely, but the long head feels kinda "soft" and not hard and defined like the others

I'm currently doing just weighted dips and occasionally some cable pushdowns. Is there anything that you've found specifically targets this head ?

    Cheers ~

The exercises that maximally stress the long head are: close-grip bench presses and lying E-Z curl triceps extensions.

a muscle is worked hardest when it is stretched

the inner (long) head of the tricep is the only head that crosses over the shoulder joint.....therefore the position of the arm affects how hard the inner head works.....if the arm is raised above the head, as in overhead extensions, then the inner head is maximally stretched and therefore worked the hardest

if the arms are down by the side the inner head is "relaxed" more so it cant work as hard....therefore the outer head and medial haed must contribute more....therefore pushdowns in general are said to work the outer head

close grip press, lying extensions are somewhere in between

so in general for you, work the triceps in various stretch positions...overhead extensions, incline extensions, overead tri press http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attach...7&d=1158436380 etc

I personally just do CGBP, reverse grip bench press, and DB skulls, and my long head gets hit HARD with all these exercises.
If you think you can, you will.

    Thumbs up

CGBP = my favorite tricep exercise
If what I see does not amaze me, I am not looking hard enough.

The more you learn, the more you realize you don't know.

    What issues?

I like to lean my upper back against a preacher curl pad, so I''m leaned back slightly. This keeps my head out of the way of the DB and keeps the triceps under tension.
    I don't know either lol

I've had shoulder problems before, but this exercise doesn't bother them. You could try a slightly different hand position, use an EZ bar, or even do them with a cable stack.

an EZ bar and using an incline bench at the notch below vertical helps me.
