Apparently you hold a barbell locked out while lying on your back and move your legs around, and somehow this makes it harder. While I haven't done it myself, just imagining it I can't understand theoretically what it is meant to target or how it would make it harder or anything.
The only use I can see to holding weight is if you were adding resistance to your leg raises (like ankle weights) and this helps you keep in proper position, otherwise you might roll forward.

I'm afraid to try this exercise... I don't want my abs as ripped as the guys in 300, it's "too much"... Floor wipers with 135 will probably make my abs gross looking and insanely ripped... They are the exercise equivalent of dat dere cell tech... Meaning, if you do floor wipers, you are basically using steriods...
Current goal: 100lb Weighted Chin (@ 90lb now) & 150lb Weighted Dips (@ 105lb now)

Hope it is ok to bump this. I saw the floorwipers on youtube by accident a few months ago. I started doing them just like they were shown but then they got too easy after a couple of weeks. Now I put 10.lb ankle weights on each leg and do them except I throw one in for the middle as well. I use up to 185 lbs. and my hand position on the bar is much more narrow than in the videos on youtube (about 6-8 inches apart so your shoulders are 100% off the ground). To up the difficulty I also get someone to slam my feet down to the starting position on each rep. I have to say that doing this exercise this way has strengthened my core tremendously. I started doing these on the squat rack so the safety bars would catch me if I busted my ass (which I did repeatedly at first). I still do all the normal stuff for abs but thought this overload would work and man was I right, at least for me. What do you all think?
