went down hard yesterday.
was working the last straight at the track, feeling good, having fun.
as i started another run, i snapped the cage on my freewheel. which is pretty impressive in itself, but when you are laying down the horse power and parts "let go" like that , you usually are sent flying.
i'm glad i had my helmet on, because i smaked my mellon pretty good, i REALLY wish i had my gloves on. my left hand looks like ground beef.
no riding for a few days for me.

Hey Guys,
My mountain bike needs serious help. Haha. I think it needs the bottom bracket cleaning and a new chain. It is starting to sound like a Magna left outside in the winter.
It has been rainy here lately, so the road bike hasn't been out in a while.
I hope some of you will be posting up some riding pictures. I like to see other riding areas, North Dakota isn't too exciting.100% Pro-Liberty Talk Radio

A Couple friends and I went out and did a century yesterday morning in training for our MTB 101 the end of July. The weather was a toasty 90 degrees here in CT, but a steady dose of Hammer Nutrition's Perpatuem and gel kept us going. We mapped out the 100 mile course here at walkjogrun.net which is a pretty cool website if you've never seen it.
I weighed myself before I left at 201.2 lbs. and when I got home 7 hours later I weighed 200.8 lbs. so I was pleased with our nutrition and hydration strategy considering the heat.
Next week we got a 75 mile ride on the MTB planned and then the week after a 125 mile road ride.
I love riding, can't get enough of it!

Bottom brackets and chains are definitely expendable parts. I would take it to a bike shop and have them chase the bottom bracket threads and put some lube up into the shell and frame, then put in something like an LX or XT bottom bracket, they're cheap and reliable. As for the chain, if it's over a year old ditch it and buy another. A good chain is less than the cost of a few beers and makes the difference between a great ride or a long walk home.
On my MTB's I ride with an XT bottom bracket and a KMC chain. I always keep an extra master link or two in my bag.

After riding the Willer (Pimp but not my cup of tea), Madone 4.5 and a 07 TCR C1 I made up my mind. Im going with a Giant!
The TRC C1 blew my socks off. The Ultegra/Dura-ace groupo, carbon frame and wheelset made it handsdown one of the most repsonsive bikes Ive ever ridden. It just FEELS fast yet its still comfortable. Its a year old, but Im getting it for the same price as what I would have got the 08 Madone 4.5 for. I also swapped the seat for a Specialized Toupe like the one I used to have on my old Tarmac.
Once I get a little seat time in, Ill update you guys with some results on the a couple local TimeTrail and Crit racing that I plan on doing. I do not plan on doing alot of long rides this year, I want to retain some muscle mass for my pursuit of becoming a Firefighter. That being said, Ill be doing alot of short interval training and maybe 1 long ride a week. Going to have to eat like a horse now to continue lifting and riding. Its good thing I like oats!"Get comfortable with the uncomfortable"

Riding the Willier was "enlightning". After being off the road for almost 2 years due to surgery, going from riding Shimano to Campy when I was trying to get used to riding again was a bit of a clusterxxxx! That being said, I like the idea of the SRAM stuff, but Im going to apply the KISS rule and stick with Shimano for now.
I dont understand the Campy stuff either btw. How the hell are you suppsed to drop a gear when your in the drops? Youd have to have some pretty flexable hands!"Get comfortable with the uncomfortable"

very nice... for me, the more I ride the more I want to ride.. its weird, I almost get to where my body feels better on a bike. Thought I was getting iliotibial band tenonitis in the hip, but it felt better after riding 60+ this weekend.. think its the hiking maybe..
nice riding man, 109 is the farthest ive gone and thats on a road bike, MTB must be tougher.. did you loop it or have any elevation change? When you're down by the sea and an eel bites your knee, thats a moray.

So, question for those of you who have been riding/lifting more than me. Is there any chance to put on any muscle during the riding season? I've gotten as low as I want to get weight wise, so I've just started trying to eat like a champ to keep up with the 2-3 hour rides. Of course most of the articles on the main page here will say that you can't do that much cardio and expect any gains, but I was wondering if anyone here has any real world experience that says otherwise.
edit.. oh yeah got in a few nice rides last weekend, although it was hot as hell around here. 95 + very humid = >100 heat index.. ouch.

not for me, honestly, I just try to retain as much muscle as possible until Dec-March when i bulk... I just cant eat enough to cover all the cals burned from riding. You can do things like make sure you get 4:1 carb/protein while riding which can help maintain muscle but for me its a lost cause. If you track all your cals you can still get surplus though.. I dont think id want to eat that much to be honest..
I rode in 103-104 both saturday and sunday, only about 12-15% humidity though.. still too damn hot..When you're down by the sea and an eel bites your knee, thats a moray.

not sure.. ive taken the extend product and used the cytosports stuff for races.... I think thats what its called... you like the AX retain though? Does it do anything for endurance while riding?
Ive been taking the cordyceps5 as well and really havent noticed much of a bump in endurance.
Ideally, like everyone id like to lose fat and keep my muscle.. ... I ride probably 150-200/wk and lift 3x per week.. My diet is dialed in real well for my goals but id certainly be interested in something like that..When you're down by the sea and an eel bites your knee, thats a moray.

If you dont mind me asking, how many calories do you typically eat and at what ratio? I was following the lean mass diet at 3500cals a day while doing the waterbury 10x3 and 30mins HIIT/25 mins LISS on my off days. I was able to gain slowly at that point, and I dont want to loose alot now that Ill be riding again. I plan on doing Upper Push/Upper Pull/Lower Split when I hit the road again whith a 5x5 or 4x8 scheme. Alot of olympic and compound lifts as well.

Oh, and if you getting ITB syndrom, a good investment would be a foam roller. Every cyclist should have one. Spend a good 20mins a night rolling on it with your legs, back, shoulders, etc and youll get rid of alot of tension and problems later on down the road.

I eat a macro of about 50-30-20 and shoot for 5-10% below 2500.. my current stats are 197 @ 9.9% which gives me an adjusted BMR of around 2500.. Ill burn anywhere from 1000-3000 cals and try to eat enough to compensate to get to my -5-10% deficit goal. Im looking to get down to 190 @ 8%... its getting tough though..
I find compound lifts essential for retaining mass... Its kind of depressing when your lifting knowing that your cal deficit anyways but you have to stay at it to keep tone and muscle.. I do use testosterone in the winter when I bulk and normally get up to 212-215... I may use it this fall, im not sure.. it really helps recovery and joint pain but obviously its not for everyone..
I log all my cals here if your interested.. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...903061&page=14When you're down by the sea and an eel bites your knee, thats a moray.
