As shows approach what do the fans want?

Hey guys, I was just reading the Olympia thread and everyone was complaining about the lack of updates given by the athletes and the companies that support the athletes so I was wondering what kind of updates you would like to see. I understand video, pics, progress, etc... but specifically what interests you about the athletes leading into shows. I'm no Mr Olympia level athlete and never will be but I am willing to get whatever the fans want produced and I am sure I can get some of the other athletes competing to do so as well.

    Thoughts?

Mostly training footage from week to week and hopefully posing footage showing the changes in the physique as their prep progresses.

Hi Dusty, I've been following your updates on Instagram and they're great.

I think the thing fans want are training videos and "day in the life vids". We know you're a grinder and it's motivating seeing you busting your ass (much more so than some of the training videos other pros put out).

Day in the life videos, training etc. IMO it's ridiculous to sign an athlete to a magazine and not make them post on the forums, post videos etc. Whether it's off season or prep time, they should have to post a video at least 1-2x a month.

Videos like what Cody Montgomery just did with Blackstone Labs. A weekly video which usually shows training highlights. They talk a bit throughout the series on diet and training leading up to the show and current mindset and obstacles and goals.

Any additional coverage would be better than we've seen lately. Training videos which include training tips and tricks, training philosophies, opinions, best practices, day-in-the-life videos, diet, nutrition, cooking videos. Like the other member mentioned, the weekly video updates that Cody Montgomery was putting out leading up to his show were very good. Another thing I think would be cool would be some up close and personal back stage coverage of the hours leading up to the show which captures, the shaving, tanning, water manipulation, carb loading, pump room, etc. There's so many aspects of competitive bodybuilding that the non-competitor never gets to see. The one thing that makes some bodybuilder's videos better than others is their personalities. Some bodybuilders have no personality and some are very introverted. It makes their videos quite boring, some are just arrogant a$$holes (cough, Heath, cough…) I find your videos entertaining because you have an outgoing personality and a good sense of humor. Your "ass-busting" work ethic in the gym is very motivating as well.

I'd love to see more meal prep/cooking vids and obviously training footage.

I like when you see vids of pro's going to stores and shopping and them detailing that.

I don't think its so much "what the fans want" as much as all the fans are wondering why the supplement industry has grown to billions upon billions and all of the great content seems to be slowly disappearing.

Even a couple years ago, there was content all over the place. Videos, articles, interviews. That piece that bb.com did with Jay Cutler. It seems like those days are fading away.

I wonder if it has something to do with social media, and how easy it is for 'fans' to comment and reach competitors. Many folks out there are crazy and disrespectful and it must appear like no one appreciates the content.

Overall, bodybuilding continues to circle the drain. Its a shame.

the reality is that it doesnt pay to get videos on MD/Flex and other websites because traffic is down so much. 99% of bodybuilding related traffic is now on social media, and users have very short attention spans for the most part.

Thanks for the input guys! I agree that the amount of videos etc is way down and frankly I think that the reason for this is that most athletes are not willing to bring this to the fans because they don't see an immediate ROI for what is spent but I look at it differently so I will be building my YouTube channel as quickly as possible. What I want to do is something different from what i have already done. With that in mind I actually have multiple different editing guys that will be working on my projects so that the videos don't all start looking the same and to keep things fresh.

I am happy to hear that you are interested in the training videos and I will be sure to start explaining why i use certain techniques now that i know that there is an interest in that side of training.

I've got new footage being shot again today so I should have two more videos ready for release by mid next week.

    Thanks again!

I just commented on you ******** post. I look forward to seeing what you do next!

DLB's YouTube channel with Rob says it all.

Vlog style videos are what the bb pros are missing out. I stopped watching gym sessions years ago. It is all the same routine with almost no story. Boooorrrriiii nnnnggggg.

People want to experience your life outside the gym and be able to relate to someone. This also opens the door even more because they feel more compelled to support you.
