I really don't think that's what he was saying. He simply said "if big waists are such a big deal to you, don't invite guys with big waists." Seems fair enough to me.

Phil had distention Friday night. He got it altogether by the finals though; although the pic with him with distention seems to be the ONLY photo people post.

You ever notice how people didn't have nearly as much animosity towards Ronnie and Jay when they were champions. Sure you get flak when you are on top, but Phil is just not very likeable and is SUPER insecure to add to it, which makes him overreact to any sort of criticism.

And this in turn makes him even less likeable. You can call that sad, but the bottom line is that he is the least popular champion in a long while.

More reaction to a top pro for sure is bound to happen with the growth of social media. I would totally agree with you there. But I would not say that him being the least popular champion is DUE to this.

Look at for example Ronaldo and Messi. Both have a HUGE social media presence. Not many people, even if not fans, dislike Messi. MANY people cannot stand Ronaldo, as he is a bit arrogant at times, flops all the time and can be dirty.

Both guys are amazing football players, but one is very well liked and the other isn't. Phil isn't liked because of his toxic personality. His physique is great, though some dislike for sure was created by what people perceived as robberies over Kai. But mainly, it is his personality that causes so many to dislike him.

All Mr. Olympias/champions have haters but Phil Heath is easily the least likable in a long time if not ever. I wasn`t following the sport to know how people felt about the less popular Mr. Olympias between Arnold & Haney
But Arnold, Haney, Yates, Coleman, Cutler & Jackson were all more likeable.

Out of all of those Mr.Olympia`s Dex probably had the most dislike due to his non chalant attitude and general shyness but he was only champ for a year & not really expected to repeat.
The general dislike for Heath is on another level & for the most part I understand why.

Edit: Someone also mentioned how far social media has progressed.....if your not likeable, it`s never been easier for the world to find out.

I don't find the initiative to be very productive.

"Don't like their physique, don't invite them to your show." could work..but, it's going to cost Arnold, the fans, etc. a lot.

He's basically saying "don't invite the 3/4th of bodybuilders to the Arnold", it would ruin the Arnold, I think.

Phil's idea makes sense, but I think it's counter-productive in practice.

I think that simply advocating that guts are terrible is good enough, it's productive enough and doesn't totally ruin a show.

Gonna be a lot of people uninvited in that case. I don't even think Arnold is trying to protect the brand as much as he's a bodybuilder himself and he sees the guts as a change for the worse in the sport that made him who he is.
