btw I believe in god and have studied a lot of religions growing up. I prefer to use philosophies from eastern belief systems/religions

However, Abrahamic religions were meant for the avg person in terms of intellect that was dumb. Throughout history you see that as soon as more information has begun to come out that contradicted christianity heavily, (not that some contradictions IRL aren't just obvious e.g. Humans are some really superior species, other animals have no souls and therefore are dumb/unintelligent. I mean you dont even need to have research to prove how stupid that is ), the truely smart people became agnostic or atheist. I believe in God but I find it a joke that people think these guys 2000 years ago, who were much less advanced got God revealed to them or w/e and could understand him by reading a dumb book that gives God human traits such as arrogance, wrath, anger etc. God is beyond humans and not understandable if God exists. That's works based salvation, and we know salvation is not of works but by faith alone in Christ alone.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

And you forgot to quote the verse right after Matthew 7:21:

"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? (Matthew 7:22)

I believe they failed because they were relying on their own self-righteous works. They were supposed to rely on Jesus' righteousness.

Get a Bible and read it for yourself. Jesus' words are what you are after, not a preacher. I think you are making a good decision. The key to understanding true Christianity is through a personal relationship with God, not an organization or charismatic leader type.

I believe the Bible is infallible. If there is something that looks like a contradiction, it's because we aren't interpreting it correctly. Jesus was sentenced to death because the people accused Him of blasphemy. The Bible is clear that Jesus and God are One:

John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 - And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Also, in John 10:30, Jesus says, "I and [my] Father are one."

Suppose there was a clear evidence of contradiction, no matter, and you believe it to be a contradiction, would you leave Christianity? My criteria is having contradiction in the Quran. if there is a contradiction, that is a sufficient reason to leave. Do you stand by that condition for the Bible?

Judaism > Christianity > Islam were revealed in that order. Read all 3 Holy books and study the Prophets and their lives. The Qu'ran is the final revelation and a living miracle in itself. Also read other texts from other faiths such as Taoism, Buddhism, whatever tickles your pickle for comparison and to deepen your knowledge.

Practice your religion. Religion is a practical matter, sitting around in a trance all day isn't advisable, put your knowledge to use and use your life as an expression of your beliefs and knowledge.
