What's to stop them from lowering their vitamin uptake and competing in Physique?
Not saying this is the reason at all, but as a pro to the situation, they will be less unhealthy.
And I believe once a pro always a pro in the IFBB. They won't need to re-qualify as a pro for another division, they can just move to it and compete there. It's not about where you are today, but what you're doing right now, to build a better you for tomorrow. - Me

Free market capitalism.
If there is no market for upper-tier female bodybuilding then it will cease to exist. Why should people bail it out? If it's not self-sufficient then it should die a natural death. A death that it has quite clearly been dying for quite a few years now. Don't forget that these shows aren't separate from the industry, they're intertwined with the larger business. Sponsors and businesses' don't want to be throwing money at contests that bring them negligible amounts of revenue.
I've been around bodybuilding for over 25 years now, as my father used to compete when I was young. However, even now and after all that I'm desensitized to, I find the Ms Olympia contest to be disgusting. I most certainly won't be won't be signing anything. If the competitions have merit, and a place in the market, they will exist on their own premise. They clearly don't.Last edited by anthonymilkins; 10-31-2014 at 05:54 AM.

Agree with this ^
Women's bodybuilding is not dying because people aren't interested in women's physical development, they have bikini, figure, and even this new physique division. People just don't like what it's become with women who have lost every secondary sexual characteristic identifying them as female. Soon they're gonna have to bring back urine testing but instead of checking for drugs they'll be checking for gender lol
Although men's bodybuilding is considered by some to be a freak show it is at least based on overloading masculinity, pretty much just exaggerated versions of the "ideal" mans physique. Women's bodybuilding isn't an exaggeration, it's a complete switch into another gender where women compete for that same "ideal" MANS physique.
If bodybuilding hopes to increase in popularity in the future it needs to cut what isn't popular, and focus on improving what is.

Pro bodybuilding is not a search for the ideal, as that would be impossible since there is no ideal. Having the criteria set, women did what men did. They got bigger and harder, and pushed the standards...which is the natural result of a competitive environment.
In pumping iron 2 there was a discussion about this with Ben Weider. Do we set limits or not? they didn't, so what we see today was inevitable. I find it unfair that the people who sacrifice more for the love of the sport, are getting abandoned. But as was previously said, that is the nature of business, and the IFBB is all about business... and nothing about bodybuilding."Kai's traps outsize him, when you compare them to the rest of his body, he's very very thick there, it makes him unbalanced." - Lee Thompson

It's not that easy, if not impossible. It's like saying that male bodybuilding pros could compete in physique if they lower the dose. These two divisions require different body types, plus other factors, like face or appealing to the crowds. A guy like Jay is a great bodybuilder, but his body just isn't suited for male physique division. Same goes for plenty of FBBers. Even if she is in the bikini division, Amanda Latona is a walking sex teaser, and that's why she has success in the industry.

Well the explosion in popularity in physique divisions for one.
The IFBB are going to invest in the area that is most profitable. Investors/sponsors will also seek the most profitable athletes. With less and less prize money and sponsorship opportunities for bodybuilders the desire to even go to that level could fade. Obviously no...it will never be as outcast as female bodybuilding but you get my point.
Bodybuilding is becoming less and less the goal for even the most dedicated of gym goers.
When we as fans start ostracizing the more niche areas (such as female bbing) in favour of profits and popularity eventually the accountants finger could point the way of the mens open.I Discovered A Meal Between Breakfast And Brunch

This, also if we could keep physique/bikini/figure and any new divisions the IFBB concocts to money grab to their own day, that'd be great.
This'll never happen because men (and a small number of women) will always be interested in seeing other men push themselves to their limits, female bodybuilding=a transsexual version of female sports. How many people want to see female sports? Ok now divide that by the number of people that want to see that with women going AGAINST their biology and having their blood panel appear more masculine than mine, yours or anyone that posted ITT.

lets face it, to most people male pro bodybuilding is a freakshow let alone female bodybuilding.
i think ifbb is trying to bring fitness competition into mainstream. starting the physique division -which looks ridiculous to many bodybuilding fans- and getting rid of the female bodybuilding is part of that strategy.

I think some of the women look feminine (Alana Schipp, Alina Popa, Anne Freitas) but a lot of them don't look "pretty" that's for sure.
The main thing I agree with here is that this is the market at work. I won't say "free" market since there's tons of regulations on businesses, but at the end of the day, people are not willing to pay for tickets. I WANT for the Ms. Olympia to stick around, but the only way that's gonna happen is if people put their money where their mouth is and *pay* for tickets.
I also feel that some website should offer a streaming webcast in HD that fans can pay for. People who want the free version can see it in the quality we're used to, but they could charge for an HD stream. Just my two cents. I don't know if it would turn out profitable or not. But I personally, would be willing to pay $50 or so for an HD stream.
Alina wasn't robbed. She just plain wasn't conditioned enough to win, period. According to my preferences, I would've had Alina winning too...but according to the history of judging criteria and how much conditioning is emphasized at the Olympia, it was obvious that Iris was gonna win. That's awesome that Alina trains at your gym though!
