Talking 12 days of no carbs - just fats, protein and veg! Ideas needed

    Hi all

So I've been seeing a nutritionist at my gym and apparently I have good knowledge on my diet and know what's right and wrong. Now I have my training in a routine he wants me to cut out rice, pasta, bread etc which I already do I just tend to have oats for breakfast. He wants me to cut them all out for 12 days and just have protein, fats, fruit and vegetables but low carb veggies.

So with that in mind does anyone have any inspiration to help so I don't get bored and fall off the wagon because if I fall off he'll keep making me do it until I succeed eeeek so I really want to smash the first try.

I do the madcows weight training Monday, Wednesday and Friday so need more food on those days.

So any ideas or inspirational recipes are much appreciated!!!

    Much love

    Frannie xx

youll still be getting carbs from fruit and vegetables and likely other sources like dairy, nuts and legumes...so why does he want you to stop eating oats for 12 days? Seems pointless...

Check out PaleoNomNom, Mark's Daily Apple, Civilized Caveman, etc., for good low carb recipes. I do think "no carbs" is a bit extreme unless you are aiming for ketogenesis. You will likely see weight reduction after 12 days sans carbs, which may be the trainer's logic (makes he/she look good).

I think his reasoning behind it is so that i see a change in my body as i'm trying to lose body fat whilst building muscle but i used to be a bit of a carb monster. I will get my other carbs from fruit and veg but obviously not eating potatoes and squash so on xx

why does it matter where your carbs come from in terms of fat loss and body composition?

Here's an idea - get rid of your "nutritionist" and follow some proper advice.

Start by reading this thread, it'll help you understand the importance of calculating your macronutrient and caloric intake: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=156380183

I would then recommend reading this thread to build on your knowledge: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=136691851

Instead of asking OP additional questions, I will try to give her advice on how to not get bored with her new diet goals (which was the intent of her thread).

Lets focus on vegetables since they're frequently the culprit

    Season everything you cook
Switch up the ways you cook your veggies (steam, sautee, bake, grill)
Find ways to sneak veggies into tasty staples (veggie omelet, green smoothies)
Learn to make your own salad dressings
Use said salad dressings as a healthy dip for raw veggies

She's asking for advice. She's been given bad advice and we're trying to correct it.

Are you an advocate of arbitrarily cutting carbohydrate sources out of your diet for a grand total of 12 days? IS that good advice to give someone?

Exactly. Especially given the fact that she decided to post this in the "advanced" nutrition section, I would expect posters here to correct, rather than condone" such nonsense.

If you are doing weight lifting as part of your exercise, carbs play an important role in muscle development.

    Carbs are not the devil.....
And honestly, 12 days at little to no carbs...my guess is from the looks of it, you will be <50gr of cabs daily.
    You are gonna be depleted....

It seems pretty clear to me she's already moving forward with the nutritionists advice, and is looking for ideas/inspiration/recipes to not get bored.

"12 days" or not, I have nothing against eating carbs, or restricting carbs. While we're at it maybe we should be in the Keto section advising everyone to read the stickies and eat carbs too.

She's moving forward because it seems like the only advice she has been given.

And why would we do that? There is nothing wrong with keto if it works for you. However, the OP isn't trying to do keto is she? There's more to keto than just cutting carbs.

Except shes not restricting carbs or following any rational plan to restrict carbs like keto. She is arbitrarily avoiding certain foods (based on nothing but the name of the food) because someone told her to. For 12 days.

Thanks for all your comments and MonsterBen.

Apologies for posting this on the advanced nutrition. I am meeting with the nutritionist tomorrow and will relay everything and question him on it.

Nutritionists tend to latch onto fads rather than think critically and apply knowledge. Why not just eat a normal, rational diet everyday rather than 1/7 days?

I would be concerned that a 'trained' person would dish out advice and then not explain why this advice was given or what to expect, even give ideas the girl is asking for in terms of tasty recipies.
