the issue is re-seating all that water. If he's on the platform in 2 hours or less from weigh ins, chugging a gallon of Gatorade isn't gonna help that much. Having the water back in your gut is a lot different from having it in your muscle. If he's losing subcutaneous water then yeah, he'll be ok. Layne is pretty lean and doesn't have a ton of fluff and he's probably not carrying a lot of extra water.
    1708 total @220 Raw
Improve my total every time I step on the platform.

Being a male is a matter of birth. However, being a "man" is a matter of choice.

Photo in Avi is not current, I'm way fatter now.

I don't disagree with this but he said it as a generalisation for everyone. The vast majority of people will drop 4lbs with zero negative effects what so ever.

All of those people left weight on the platform. Probably 4% or more of their totals.

at a 24 hour weigh in? of course not

at a 4 hour weigh in? possibly. Also, I've been to USAPL meets, though it says 2 hour weigh in... often you weigh in and 10-20 minutes later you are already warming up to lift. All I'm doing is being cautious and prepared. Apparently this makes me stupid

Dude you can water load 4 lbs so easy. You literally the same weight as you started before you hit the platform. If you are 209lbs 1 week out, you water load, weigh in at 205, drink, weigh 209 on the platform. Its been done by the most elite powerlifters on the planet for years. Yes I'm talking IPF 2 hour weigh in guys. All it is is water manipulation. 2 gals a day for a few days then dropping to less than half for the day before the meet. If you think that's going to have a significant affect on performance, then yes, I'm you are stupid.

Don't tell me about what you studied in school either. I have a master's in science in Agriculture and when I am out working with ag issues I can promise you the farmer with experience knows more than I do.

I see this with personal trainers at uni that know it all because they studied it and then there are powerlifters on the team that give you a better strength program.

There is a difference in short term fluid dynamics/where that is stored short term vs. long term. Just chugging 4 gallons of water does not immediately put that fluid back into the tissues where it normally would have been. I'm not sure why you are being so aggressive and obstinate about this. All I said was I'm being careful, trying to do things correctly. You seem to act like I punched your mom or something.

There is no need to talk down, I have the same undergrad degree as you. I know you have a PhD, but I'm speaking from experience cutting weight, which I'm assuming you should have as well. You of all people should know there's a pretty big difference between 'studying' something and actually experiencing it. Obviously cutting something like 10% of your bodyweight for a 2 hour weigh in is going to have an effect, but we're not talking about 10 - 15 pounds here. It's 4 pounds.

Yes I do have experience & I have studied... thus my caution. But I don't think I'm going to convince you as you have your mind made up about this. So let's move on.
