    GOALS. I Have a few. This will help me achieve them: NIUhuskie12's Training Log

    So here we go.

    I have been planning to start this log up for quite a while now. I have done a few supplement logs for Cellucor, but now I want to have one that is consistent. This log will not only be for my training, dieting, supplementation, etc., but also a place for me to write out whatever is on my mind. I find a great relief of stress when I write out my thoughts, so this log will be very personal but I can't think of a better place to share everything going on in my life both in and out of the gym than with a community of like-minded individuals who may be going through similar obstacles, issues, problems, stress, achievements, etc., so I want to thank all of you in advance for any and every piece of feedback, comments, questions, anything you may have to say or comment on, I thank you, it will only help me improve and become better!

    So who am I?

    I'm Matt Veljkovich, a recent college graduate from the University of Northern Illinois in DeKalb, IL. I graduated with a dual masters degree in both Business Administration and International Management just last Saturday. I received my undergraduate degree in Hospitality Administration from NIU as well and have held a full time job as a Student Manager at a co-ed privately owned dormitory on campus since 2007. It has been a long journey through my collegiate career with lots of ups and lots of downs. My hero, my best friend, and my role model, my father, passed away back in September of 2008 after a 20+ year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. His greatest piece of advice to me was "IF YOU HAVE YOUR HEALTH, YOU HAVE IT ALL." I watched him struggle over the years, soon being confined to a wheelchair, not being able to walk, run, jog, or his favorite activity, swim. I realized that I NEVER want to stop weight lifting and training, because every day that I do so I believe that I am not only exercising for myself, but also for him; doing all of the things that he could no longer do because of a disease he was stricken with. I always like to have a GREAT deal of control in my life; controlling what I put in my body, the control over how much I exert myself both mentally and physically, the control over how much bull**** I put up with each day, both personally and professionally, and just always having a plan, always having a path.

    My path has me seeking new goals, which has brought me here. I want to compete in late 2014, giving myself a full year dedicated to MYSELF; I do not have the obstacle of school in my way anymore and so there cannot be any excuses from here on out. My schooling took priority, especially in the past several months because it came to crunch everything and crank out papers and reports and presentations and finals, BUT NO MORE! My mind is clear of the school clutter, my degrees achieved, and now it is time to push it even harder in terms of training, dieting, and everything in between.

    I just signed up for the 100k 12 Week Body Transformation Challenge Sponsored by Dymatize. It's simple: I WANT TO WIN.
    I placed 2nd in the 6 week challenge sponsored by Cellucor and Bodybuilding.com back in the summer, and it left me wanting more. wondering when I would get another opportunity to truly push myself and WIN. 1st. NOTHING LESS. And so this challenge finally was posted on the site, and now I'm registered and anxiously awaiting for it to begin.

    I am currently bulking right now, sitting at around 196lb. My dieting has not been the greatest due to my schooling which got my routine all screwy with all nighters and all day study sessions, but now its time to claim control of my diet, and really get into the nitty gritty of it all. I want to become the methodical prep/planner that I once was a few years ago. I want to eat, sleep, train, and breathe nothing but RESULTS.

    In this log I will have postings of my workouts, my supplementation, my mental state, food pronz for those of you who love to drool over delicious pictures of food and good eats, and I really do want to start posting video-blogs in this journal. These may turn out to be me just rambling on, possibly repeating myself, but I want you to get to know me, whether you become just an acquaintance or a life long friend who shares the same passion and desire to want to be in this industry and be an advocate for health and fitness, I want you to know ME.

    So here it is. GO TIME. LOCK N LOAD. NO STOPPING THIS TRAIN. NO STOPPING THIS JOURNEY. I WANT IT ALL.

    SOLID workouts for both days! granted I only had about 9 hours in between them and little to no sleep but I felt pretty good and refreshed during the back workout, must be the ALPHA AMINO!!!!! The hottest new product brought to you by Cellucor, they have hit the nail on the head with this one once again going to take the amino game by storm! Great amino complex with the addition of a hydration complex with the coconut water powder makes this a great product to add to an already great Cellucor stack that I am rocking!

    Both this and my black V-neck came in on Monday, so very excited! Gotta rep in any way I can!

    Happy to see progress still in my benching as my flat barbell has gone up to me doing reps for 235; I want to get really accustomed to this weight so that I can begin to load a bit more on and progress even further! Triceps and Biceps we fairly sore Tuesday afternoon, however as I type this now on a very cold Thursday Morning, they are surprisingly well recovered! Probably because I whipped up these bad boys yesterday for breakfast:

    Chef Bob's Cor-Whey Pancakes! I used Strawberry Milkshake for mine, and of course a snowfall of powdered sugar!

    Christmas was very good to me, how good? Well I am typing this post entry on this brand new love of my life:

    I am home for the next couple of days so I am going to see if I can get the quick hookup at the local ATI Gym here and get a free weekend pass as they usually give me because my mom has a regular membership for several years at their establishment and they know her sons need to get their pump on! Can't wait for that Alpha Amino to arrive at my place along with the Cor-Fetti Cor-Performance Whey! Will be posting a review in the supplement review section of these forums, just give a quick check as I have done several already.

    Up for today should be a solid shoulder workout with some trap and calf work as well, MAYBE some DLs, depends on how much more that tweaked muscle in my back recovers and how it is feeling, don't want to re-aggravate it again!

    I should have another post later tonight, if not tomorrow morning once again.

    This workout felt pretty damn good! Only difference was I was lifting at my gym back home so their machines and benches and whatnot are all different from what I have back in DeKalb, most notably was the double cable machine, those 20s were HEAVY! Much more challenging than the cables back in DeKalb so I had to adjust obviously, but there was no adjusting on the seated DB OHPs! I was fairly pleased with the fact that I was putting up 80s for reps, I don't think I have ever put up 80s for OHP EVER EVER EVER! So progress is definitely being made strength wise, diet wise I am getting back into it slowly but surely. Protein Pancakes will be a MUST every single day because I can get about 30% of my calories for the day just from that meal

    Went out to a friend's house to watch the NIU v Utah State Bowl Game, I don't want to talk about it.....terrible performance by NIU I don't know what in the hell we were doing! A bunch of my friends were joking around asking me why I wasn't really drinking, and of course I just hit them with some knowledge about the body transformation contest being held by Dymatize and of course told em I'm working hard to chase after $50,000!!!! Had 2 beers at my buddy's place and then 2 vegas bombs at the bar and that was it, not to mention that was spaced over about 7 hours

    Hoping to get my leg work in today but if not I ABSOLUTELY will be getting it in tomorrow before a 11 hour work shift! On second thought, I probably will get my leg work in tomorrow because I lift my weight belt at home and would really like that if I want to squat some serious weight, especially with this nagging pulled muscle that keeps lingering in my middle left back. It feels improved, but still lingering and noticeably there. Ugh, GO AWAY I GOT WEIGHTS TO CRUSH!

    BTW - Cellucor hit me up on instagram requesting my mailing info cause I ended up winning for the 6th day of Fitstagram! Free 2lb Tub of Cor-FETTI, 60 serving C4, AND of course what I am most excited about, 30 serving of ALPHA AMINO! Very excited to be receiving this in the next two weeks, sometime after the 1st, baking with that Cor-Fetti for sure!

    From what I've experienced the 4 times I have taken it, it has been treating me EXTREMELY WELL!
    The day I took it on an empty stomach and as my pre-workout (no C4?! I know crazy right?!) It worked just as good! I feel much more refreshed and rested when I complete my workout as long as I take it pre or intra (intra meaning within the first 15 minutes of the workout), this stuff is great! The coconut water certainly plays a factor in keeping that hydration level up and so I don't feel so exhausted after my workouts, especially with that high weight low rep heavy heavy heavy lift days

    Like I said before, Alpha Amino = GAME CHANGER / WILL DOMINATE THE AMINO PRODUCT MARKET! We just have to continue to keep spreading the word about AA so people know what it is all about

    Had to take it very easy today as I still have that nagging middle back muscle that still feels pretty tweaked. I did some extensive stretching on it yesterday and today, still there, so my squats were not as heavy as I would have liked. Really airing on the side of caution because I do not want to risk any serious injury right when the 100k challenge is about to start. Going to do some more stretching and try to get some more rest these next couple of days. I applied for two more jobs which happen to be located by my home in Downers Grove which would be perfect, one being part time at the gym I workout at whenever I am at home aka free membership holler!     HOLY PUMP! What a great way to end 2013 than with an intense and very CRUSHED chest day! Once again going for higher reps for this week, chest felt like it was going to explode after the sets of flat barbell bench! DB Incline felt great along with the cable incline flyes, my upper chest is really feeling it today! Decided to add 1 scoop of the Beta-BCAA pre workout as this was an EARLY morning workout for me and so I figured I would need an extra boost for this one, and it certainly helped! Ended the workout feeling great and ready to strike 2014 and hit the ground pumping!

    FIRST WORKOUT OF 2014 IS IN THE BOOKS! After a very relaxing New Year's Eve of sushi and The Walking Dead Marathon and quality hours of sleep, I found myself waking up fairly early by my standards (I think it was around 6 or 7am) and so I thought "LETS DO WORK THIS MORNING!" I was too eager and excited and well rested to wait until the afternoon or evening to workout...come to think of it, I wouldn't have been able to due to a 13 hour work shift, and so I loaded up the shaker with 2 scoops of C4 and headed down to mash some weight.

    The tweak in my back really didn't affect me during the workout, and now it seems that its just a nagging minor soreness, still there, but not as painful or discomforting. Back (especially the lats) got a terrific pump in them, but my biceps? OH MY GOODNESS THE PUMP! Felt as if they were going to explode at any moment, and that was after the sets of the barbell curls. My biceps are definitely one of my more weaker areas as my love for chest and back day over the years left my arms a bit by the wayside. This is an area that I have seen a more noticeable improvement in over the past month, maybe not in sheer size, but in the shape and tone they look like they are being brought up, which is very pleasing to see AND feel!

    Did some front double bicep posing in the mirror, just for fun nothing serious, and it appears that my lats have grown significantly as well! But then of course my arms look small in comparison to the rest of the upper body, just more motivation for me to bring them up! Looking to add some more quality shape and size to them by the end of the 12 week Dymatize challenge!

    Yes it does! Helps alleviate any discomfort on the lower back as well, I will most likely stick with this exercise for a while

    Overall a very solid workout, I wouldn't say it was amazing or one of the best shoulder workouts I've had, I don't know....it seems that this extremely cold and snowy weather has thrown me off a bit. Still, I remained focused, intense, got in, did work, and got out.

    Oh WOW. I went in knowing I would be going very light on these reps for both barbell back and front squat. That nagging middle left muscle ache/pain/sting..whatever you want to call it, it is still there and so I decided to go lighter than normal which eliminated any pain from that area/muscle. I went way way wayyyy below parallel on these reps for every set, really stretching out the hips and just focusing on the form, squeezing the glutes and quads on every single rep. I varied my tempo on each set, using quick explosive reps to reps where I paused at the bottom for a 2 or 3 count, then slowly went up. Much to my delight, my quads were BURNING after completing the front barbell squats. (ended up taking a page outta Joe String's book, and used only my middle and index fingers to slightly wrap around the bar instead of going with the crossed arms to hold the bar up.) Focused on balancing the bar up on my collarbone/upper chest and again varying the tempo from quick and explosive to slow and pause, mixing it up and really getting a ridiculous contraction. I would have to say this leg workout proved to be one of the best ones I have had in quite a while, and this was with extremely light weight as you can see. Just deciding to be cautious and not injure my back more, will most likely be scheduling an MRI in the next few weeks just to see if its indeed a severely pulled muscle, pinched nerve, or something more severe.

    Last night's BIG MEAL

    This meal was HUGE! So much in fact that I have enough for another BIG meal today, which is a plus and I have a bunch of white basmati rice to accompany it!

    So this workout was in a fasted state (almost no food for 12 hours?) I went to bed pretty early (before 11pm) and woke up about 10:30am, didn't head down to the gym until about 12pm. I was very unhappy with the weight I was pushing for flat barbell bench, the month prior I had been pushing 190, 200 for 9-11 reps and today I could barely get 9 reps at 195. Yeah, fasted workouts (at least for chest) are not for me. My body has grown accustomed to the new regular sleep schedule, but my body just simply performs better with kcals and energy that has been consumed throughout the day. I was going to do calves and abs, but I just felt gassed and not really dialed in for this workout, so I will head down later tonight to get that ab and calf work in on a body loaded with kcals!

    Posted Alpha Amino Reviews on BB.com (both forums and store) as well as "The Corporate Giant". Legs are still jelly-like from last night's leg sesh, but I ended up grabbing the last container of Beta-BCAAs from my bro's suite in the building since he hasn't been taking them and just sticks to whey protein, hooray for me! Lemon Lime too, my second favorite of the three flavors (sorry, not a tropical punch fan at all!)

    So I am exactly one week out from the start of the 12 week Dymatize Body Transformation Challenge! Am I cut? NO. Am I fluffy? YES. Do I look like S!#$? YES. And that is exactly where I want to be for that "before" photo. Abs are barely visible first thing in the morning in a fasted state, which is great because this is the one muscle group area that makes progress very quickly once I hit them hard 2-3 times a week. I'm not going to mess with sodium loading or water depletion this time around for the "after" photos, simply going to steadily lower my kcals each week about 5-6 weeks out with a refeed every 5-7 days and a tapering of the carbs, but not to the point where I feel like I am dying. The diet will be tightened up GREATLY, eliminating all packaged and fast foods, soda, alcohol, etc.

    My girlfriend wants to do the contest with me which is the perfect opportunity for me to help her get back into shape and show her just how great she will feel once she gets into the swing of things!

    BACK n BICEPS workout tomorrow, and it will NOT be in a fasted state thank you very much! I NEED MAH KCALS!!!!!!

    Also, I looked at the pdf file of the list of compounds that are banned aka if you have taken any within 7 years you are not eligible to compete because its natty, one of the compounds was listed with the OLD Gaspari Nutrition Novadex XT, and I actually took a month cycle of it back in 2009, so I still would have to wait 3 more years before I could be eligible I believe. Maybe I'm wrong.

    Usually the registration is due at least 2-3 weeks out, so early November. Its $65 for an OCB membership card (good for 1 year) and $50 to enter the competition. Its a really great show that I did last year and I can't wait to do it again this year.
