^this. Other then the usual stuff like DL's, rows, hypers, etc. some very good back exercises can be done with just a pull-up bar and your own body weight.

Are these decently sized dumbbells? Pretty much anything you can do with a barbell can be mimicked with dumbbells.
    I do because I can.
I can because I want to.
I want to because you said I couldn't.

    Basically anything

Hold them with your feet and do any variation of pull ups,chin-ups, v-bar pull ups (just buy the v bar and put it over what you usually use for pull ups)

any variation of bent over rows be it one arm or two arms at a time

    Shrugs

...rows, deadlifts, pull-overs, shrugs, bent-lateral raises. If you have a bar available, you can also do pull-ups and chin-ups.

OP, what range of weight are your dumbbells, can you give examples of how much you can currently lift with them (in which movements) and what back muscles in particular you want to target?

As you can see so far, there are many exercises for many back muscles, details aid in finding specific answers.

dumbells go from 5-50lbs, no chin up bar.

the weight is not a problem (i dont think) since i have almost no back muscles (srs).

when doing these exercises, i have trouble "feeling" it in my back, should i focus on my shoulders to engage the right muscles?
