I'm just using 1BT = $20 USD.
So if I have .06BT you multiply that by 20.
If you want to play it safe, do not invest into Bitcoin mining. Do what I'm doing and invest the money you earn from this (if you do earn any) to buy new hardware. Even if this ends up failing right after you purchase your new graphics card, well at least you got a new graphics card.
How do I overclock my GPU? I know ATI Catalyst lets me boost some settings, but I don't want to screw anything up.Last edited by SCAR-H; 06-14-2011 at 02:26 PM.

Cpu has next to nothing to do with bit mining.
It runs solely off of your gpu.
To the guy askin about oc'ing, just go to your catalyst controller and increase your gpu clock speeds. Mem speeds dont effect your mhash at a rate that is beneficial so leave it stock to keep gpu temps down.
Slowly dial your clock speeds up until you see white spots on your monitor and then dial it back down 10-15 mhz. That is your peak stable clock.
Get a program like gpu-z to monitor your gpu temps.
Im running a 5770 at 950 mhz with mem at 1400 and im hitting 71-72 degrees max load with 75% fan speed.

i'm gonna set up a few test boxes, will post stats on what each box produces
current box is running:
dual quad cores - intel xeon e5504s @ 2.00 GHz
8 gigs ram
mining off the CPU using minerd on debian 6 (64 bit), as its a rackmount server with a very basic gpu
next box will be something similar cpu/ram wise but with dual nvidia tesla s1070s, same OS
averaging about 8 MH/s on the dual quads, will be interesting to see what those teslas are capable of. they should tear **** up
due to my current job i get the hardware, power, cooling, etc... for free in a 24x7 data center. only thing i have to do is set it all up on my personal time, then leave it runningIf I'm on here, I'm at work
If I'm at work, I'm bored
Feel free to entertain me

I hope no ones taking financial advice from you.
There is no loss of investment in bitcoin mining because it doesn't require any 'investment' besides leave your computer running.
Unless someones running a retarded set-up you'll never lose more money in electric bills than you will have gained from mining.
Upgrade your hardware with money made and there you go.
Something from nothing, and then if you decide to quit mining you have a better gpu in your rig for other use anyways.

You're never going to see any money mining off of a cpu.
Better off getting the cheapest possible cpu/mobo combo to support a good ati card and mining off of that.
Also, I wouldn't recommend you this at your work. Mining bitcoins renders a rig next to useless if you're using your cpu to do it because it's going to keep your cpu near full load at all times while it's active.
You're going to overheat and fry all the cpu's in the data center unless no one else plans on using the pc's for anything at all, which doesn't seem to be the case since they're at your place of work.

gonna jump the gun on this and buy a quad 5850 setup, should pay for itself in a month

From what I read, mining is designed to take advantage of the GPU not the CPU. A GPU and CPU are vastly different in their respective capabilities and what they can accomplished. What they calculate and how they go about it completely different. Mining on a cpu is essentially useless.
From the wiki
A CPU core can execute 4 32-bit instructions per clock (using a 128-bit SSE instruction) or 8 via AVX (256-Bit), whereas a GPU like the Radeon HD 5970 can execute 3200 32-bit instructions per clock (using its 3200 ALUs or shaders). This is a difference of 800 (or 400 in case of AVX) times more instructions per clock. As of 2011, the fastest CPUs have up to 6, 8, or 12 cores and a somewhat higher frequency clock (2000-3000 MHz vs. 725 MHz for the Radeon HD 5970), but one HD5970 is still more than five times faster than four 12-core CPUs at 2.3GHz

I'm planning on getting quadfire 5850s, which should come to 600 watt per hour at 100%, where I come from that is like 6-7 cents an hour, so assuming the rest takes up to 100watt, the entire thing should run at around 8 cents per hour, 1.92$ a day, ~60$ a month, while making more than 1k$ farming (not giving an exact number since value of btc fluctuates, but anyone can calculate this)
