40 the new 30?
All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the ... day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.

40 is the new 30 my back would disagree with that....anyway what does dialed in mean? Hard to give any advice with no program given.

The solution to abs is as easy as sustained caloric deficit.
Yes....that simple. Yet some how not as easy as it sounds. It just takes discipline and willpower. I had tried and failed several times in the past because I did not want to do the work it takes to track food as accurately as I needed too.
I am now 11 weeks in on my quest to have abs for the first time since my 20's....but this time it is working. Only difference is this time, I am putting the work in to food planning and STICKING to it.
Waist is down from 36.5 to just below 31" right now. My abs are almost....coming in. It's been tough but worth it!...
I am doing a modified carb cycling diet. I give details in my journal (address in my signature). Lots of other good diets though. You have to find what you can handle mentally. There are some amazing people on here with great advice and after considering the options, this worked the best for me.
Just to give you an idea of how quick progress can go if you are dedicated...here is a good pic to illustrate it. I am working on the last little bit now.....Wish I had taken a starting picture....would have been even more dramatic.

Agreed fellow Canuck.
Also, I do believe that 40 is the new 30 and 50 the new 40. Not sure why that is, but people in their 40s look younger than the last generation. I suspect it's related to better nutrition than our parents/grandparents had, I mean as kids, and those currently in their 40s were not raised on video games so there wasn't that fat kid business that will haunt the next generations."An infraction is better than an infarction."

Getting the fat off the top of the abs so they'll show is indispensable but I've also found that making those muscles bigger helps tremendously. To that end, I make heavy resistance abdominal exercises part of every training session even if many say that there is no need to do any direct ab work. My gym has a crunch machine that accomodates as many as three 45lb plates (plus, I've discovered a dumbell on top for some extra resistance). There are also standing side bends with a heavy dumbell in one hand, lying crunches with a plate on the chest, leg raises with a dumbell between the feet, and kneeling cable crunches.
Of course, after that, it's just a matter of reducing your overall bodyfat level as low as you can. The last ten pounds is a bitch! I've been doing pretty well by eating twice a day (breakfast and dinner). My meals are very satisfying. I sleep well. Keeping the calories and macros at a level that allows me to cut a pound a week yet still have energy for training is easy and I can deal with the hunger in the late afternoon when there are distractions (not like lying in bed trying to fall asleep hungry).
I was just thinking this morning about fitness being a good "mid-life crisis." A six pack is even better than a Corvette!

[/QUOTE]"It doesn't matter what exercise you do, but man was made to move, to eat sparingly, to work hard and to screw as much as he can manage. Do all that, and you will look as good as your genes will let you, be content as the arseholes around you will allow, and maybe get a few screws. The particular virtues of weight training are in the discipline it brings to both mind and body, and, if you do it right, it will make you look good naked and do well what you got your clothes off to do."
