I only workout with machines. My friends do push-ups and pull-ups and body weight exercises and are much more buff than I am. I mean I'm out there lifting heavy on the machines and they do these free body weight exercises and become more ripped.
They also don't eat as much as I do. What's the deal?
We're also around the same age.

barbells and dumbbells > bodyweight exercises > machines
Don't try to be as big as them, try to be BIGGER than them. Hit the free weights man.
Also, are they actually bigger, or just more cut? Since they do all that bodyweight stuff, they're probably more conditioned and have a lower body fat percentage than you, so they look more muscular."I'm just a lat guy, you know? Quit relying on machines, make free weights and body weight exercises your focus, there are some machines I really like and use often(cable flys/pec deck flys, pushdowns, row machines, chest press) but free weights and body weight will always be better. I like cable machine of all machines the best because cables allow you to keep constant tension on the muscles, providing a different stimulus from free weights and lever machines which release some tension at some point during the lift. Not locking out is a way to decrease lost tension on free weight exercises.

Are you eating the right stuff? It could just be genetics as well. I have a friend who gets bigger looking than I am but really, we lift the same. Also, do they have to be shorter? My other friend who is about 7 inches shorter than I am, looks huge compared to me but really it's only because his arms are shorter I believe so his muscles aren't as long.
