We didn't even close the bar down...damn I'm getting old.
Tomorrow. Too tired right now lol.
I really don't know what was going on. I smoked 315 in the warmup room, smoked 341 with a terrible liftoff, then had nothing with 363. Only was weighing 194 on Friday for some odd reason so I'm sure that hurt. Only weighed in at like 196.
Thanks.
Next stop, 650 lol.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I've hit 365 on numerous occassions, so I was actually shocked with the missed attempts. My benching base cycle was stronger than ever this go round. I'd like to hit a 565 this summer in the gym.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Nick, do you find that a deadlift at a meet gives you much more of an adrenaline rush than going for a max effort single at the gym?

We'll see. It depends how my comps line up. I'll probably do a meet in August then likely won't compete until February, and 650 will be tough to pull in the gym. I'd like 617-628 in August.
Gonna start hammering conventional deads again and see what happens.
I really don't think so actually. I get very focused either way and forget about everything around me. I pretty much forget there are even people around me while lifting in competitions.Last edited by BombDonald; 05-13-2012 at 05:11 PM.

196.4 lbs @ weigh-ins
SQUAT
507
540
x562
Started warming up a bit too early, but it didn't seem to affect me. Just took my time and ended up taking 315 twice before 405 since I was cooling off too much. Hit a super fast and deep 465 before heading out to the platform.
1st attempt was a little shaky but I completely killed it. 2nd attempt was the goofy one, for some reason my left knee buckled in the hole and it left me in a considerable amount of pain before my 3rd. I rubbed it for a few minutes and it seemed to be fine, and it didn't seem to affect my 3rd at all. I got moving on the 3rd then blacked out or something. Managed to squeak out a "take it" then I was safely back in the racks.
BENCH PRESS
341
x363
x363
Smoked 315 in the warm-up room, and everything seemed to be going perfect. Got a strange lift-off with 341 and had to wrestle it into position after the lift-off, but still managed to smoke 341 with ease. Really not sure how I missed 363, especially since I've hit 365 with slower warm-ups than I had today. I am contributing this atrocity to losing weight this week since I've had no appetite.
DEADLIFT
562
600
x622
I was in shambles after the bench, but had to get my head on straight to get 600. Warm-ups felt terrible at first then I got moving, and killed a 495 single before heading out. Was contemplating a 535 before heading out, but I was drained and figured it would do more harm than good.
562 went up super slick, faster than I was expecting. I knew 600 was going down as long as I could stay focused, and sure as sh*t, it did. A 622 would have put me at 1503 so I had to go for it. Started pulling, maybe got it a hair off the floor, felt my hips shooting up, and bailed. No way I could recover from such a severe technical error with that heavy of a weight.
All in all, the only thing I was really happy about was the 600 pull. I have to get better at listening to my body and making smarter attempts to maximize what I can do that day. If I would have taken 551 on my 3rd for squats, and tried 352 for my 2nd on bench instead, I would have broke 1500. But since I was hell bent on going 562 and 363, even though 540 wasn't super fast and my bench training has been terrible recently, I didn't accomplish what I set out to do.Last edited by BombDonald; 05-14-2012 at 11:37 AM.

Strong liftoff... you should have yelled at that guy straight after. did he screw up every body like that?
Even if you're not happy, you learned from it. and those lifts are definitely nothing to scoff at.Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=134647881

Thanks!
Most people actually had the same guy that competed in bench only help them with lift-offs. I grabbed him for my 2nd and 3rd.
I didn't catch any of his other lift-offs. It was just a pain because I had to wrestle it into place after it was unracked. I could have lifted it off myself easier than that. Probably just some communication errors though. Still blaming myself for why I didn't get 363.

Nah I was just happy I got it passed. I'm figuring it was due to my right knee appearing to unlock slightly before locking it out. That is against the rules lol. I don't think there was any issues at lockout. My shoulders weren't really pulled back, but they weren't really slouched forward either. It has to have been the knee. I was just trying to get it over with since my grip was actually kinda slipping for the first time ever in competition.

That was one decent 560 pull! Very fast, interesting about the 1 red light. Id say it was about the knee too

Alright, so the next meet I will be doing is in August, just a local meet. With Anthony Scolaro recently totaling 1653 and a few guys knocking on the door of 1600, I am not quite good enough to be competitive at USAPL raw nationals, especially since it would cost a pretty coin to get down there. So unless something just falls into my lap that makes the trip pretty cheap, I'm not going this year.
13 weeks out right now, and I will be training with the idea of going 562-374-617. Back to beltless squats, no legs on bench, and conventional deadlifts for the time being. I think my main problem leading into this past meet was cutting out too much volume in the last few weeks. Low volume = low appetite for me, which obviously hurt. Cutting out the benching volume hurt the most since I seem to lose size pretty quick in my upper body when I drop the volume. I was looking pretty jacked when I could hit 315x5 with no leg drive and was doing like 5-8 working sets per workout, but definitely didn't look like that prior to the meet when I was going for big numbers all the time.
Every meet has been a learning experience. Once I figure things out completely I will be much more dangerous at meets. I keep leaving weight on the platform from poorly chosen attempts and that needs to change. I could have went 1500+ at my past 2 meets if I was a little smarter.
